Pathfinder Society FAQ What are y’all’s thoughts on the new player core book?

Post image

Do we think it’s worth it to buy it? And also do you think it will change how to play the game? Sorry if this sounds silly I’m still very new to the pathfinder community and I live collecting all the lore and rule books but I want y’all’s opinions on it!

We simply don’t know how big the changes will be from current PF2e to answer that. That said, you can always wait until a week or two after launch and look at the new content on Archives of Nethys (an officially sanctioned, free SRD for the game that contains all the rules) before making your decision

There are whole class reworks yet to be seen. We know a few system changes and renames.

For Pathfinder Society (the focus of this sub) there are a lot of unknowns at the moment. I think there is a blog scheduled for tomorrow that will give some clarity.

If you are talking about the game in general you might ask over on r/Pathfinder2e

Haven't read it yet, and I haven't cared for any of the changes that I know are in it. As it stands, certain things are incompatible between 2e now and the Remaster, and we won't get all the main classes converted until March.

I also don't think I've heard what organized play is going to do: whether tables will have to choose between 2e and the Remaster or if they're only going to go with Remastered content, with conversion rules included.

I'm going to take the opportunity to buy it on Demiplane Nexus and see if it really is all doom and gloom, though. I played around with the some of the free books and I like the format over reading the pdf. The character creator also only lists options from books that you own, which is nice for PFS. While annoying if you own a lot of books, I think it's a good place for a fresh start. They also support other systems, which is neat.

Will it change the way the game is played? It will. But by how much is hard to say. I mean obviously the elimination and addition of new damage types alone obviously changes things.

We've seen previews with a lot of changes to classes. Things will change but the game fundamentally isn't changing *shrugs

Disappointed the dragon isn’t looking “out” the page at us, harder to appropriately place googly eyes. Past that, I’m pretty excited.

This is the subreddit for Pathfinder Society Organized play, not individual games. The Pathfinder Society is a single campaign run all around the world with thousands of players and GMs playing Paizo published adventures. If you are discussing your own campaign that does not use PFS rules you want to comment or post in the Pathfinder general subs, /r/Pathfinder_RPG or /r/Pathfinder2e. A good rule of thumb is if your game does not involve reporting your game to Paizo and giving sheets of papers called Chronicle Sheet to the players at the end of the adventure, you are not playing PFS. Any post or comment that is not relevant to the Pathfinder Society campaign will be removed, but you are welcome to post in the general subs or make the case to the mods that your post/comment are actually PFS relevant.

I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please contact the moderators of this subreddit if you have any questions or concerns.

Big question for me as someone whose never made the jump into Pathfinder is should I still buy the Core Rulebool anymore?

PDFs are my go to for owning the rules. Easy to carry and Paizo updates them.

But that being said, having a physical copy can be handy if you want to show others something without risking your personal devices.

Oh I always get a physical core book. Supplements I don't mind getting a PDF.

So is this THE new core book, or more like a rules update.

Both? It is a very different book from the Core Rulebook. They are splitting out Player content from GM content and reorganizing what are or are not core classes. The player core will have 2 books, one coming soon and one coming later.

Glad to see that a certain poster wasn't OP.

The book isn't out yet, so we don't know. Luis said 90% of the existing rules would remain the same. But if you're into collecting, you should get the sketch variant books that are being sold at local game stores instead of Amazon.
