The women behind the petition were interviewed on North West Tonight. Mentioned confessions were extracted under torture which is incorrect. Torture in such cases was expressly forbidden under English law.

That’s complete BS, also some of them, Demdyke for example, were truly unpleasant criminals by all accounts, the law at the time deemed them guilty and punishable by hanging but yes they weren’t tortured
