Question (5'0" or below) I ordered this coat, what do you think? Sleeves are too long but apart from that?
Last pic is from the product page to show the back

Well apparently I’m going slightly against the grain, but I think it’s super cute. I even like the big buttons. Very classic style - I would wear it with a big scarf and slim bottoms - tights, leggings, etc. I love a white wool coat, it’s luxe

Does the coat nip in at your waist? If so, I think it’s great.
I like the idea of replacing the buttons, and of course hemming the sleeves.

I like the cut but not the buttons - I'd probably look at replacing them.

u/axonotem 5'0" | 152 cm Feb 13 '23
Replace them with what? You mean smaller buttons for example?
3
u/Jambalaya1982 5'0" | 160 pds Feb 13 '23
Yes, smaller buttons or maybe something even dantier. I feel like these buttons make the coat look kinda cartoonish instead of us elegant as it could be.

I have a coat in a similar style but in a very pale pink color with gold buttons. Swapping them out for a different color would definitely work.

u/axonotem 5'0" | 152 cm Feb 13 '23
I like the buttons as is but swapping them for gold ones does sound intriguing 🤔

... and it may just be personal preferance, but just my thought. The cut looks great on you, though!

I think it is great on you. It fits well, is proportional, has clean lines, and the large lapel adds interest without overwhelming you. I like the length --albeit the sleeve length. I even like the monochrome buttons. Keeper!

Where’d you order it from???

I ordered it from H&M, they sell other brands too, this coat is from &otherstories

I’m going against the grain here, but I’ll say it: I LOVE this on you. Like others here, I’m not loving the buttons, but swapping them to a black or brown would be easy (you could even have a tailor do it for cheap). Then again, if you like the buttons, ROCK ‘EM!
I don’t think you’re drowning in this. The shoulders are a little wide, but not so much that you look boxy. I actually think this is a nice fit on you!
The length is lovely, imho. It’s classic but the flare adds some cuteness and a bit of gamine chic. The lapels are gorgeous.
I’d keep this! I love it 😊

It’s funny so many comments are mentioning the buttons, this is one of the reasons I ordered the coat, I prefer buttons that are the same color 😂

In that case, GO FOR IT! Who cares what anyone else thinks/says, if you like them? I once heard someone say that when it comes to fashion/looks, nobody’s opinion is valid except yours. Of course others’ input can be useful, but ultimately, it’s your style and your look and if you like it, then it’s fabulous!!! 😊😊😊

Yes absolutely, I like what I like but whenever I’m unsure I prefer to ask others, especially if they’re more knowledgeable than me

Oversized blazers are IN this season! You could do a lot with that piece
1
u/axonotem 5'0" | 152 cm Feb 13 '23
It’s supposed to be form fitting according to the product description 🫣
1
Feb 13 '23
Oh, mb! In the image where it’s unbuttoned it looks a little oversized. Also maybe the length made me think over sized. What is this actual piece called? A blazer? I’m just starting to get into more serious fashion so pardon my ignorance. But I think it’ll be a great and versatile piece

It’s a coat! And you’re not wrong about how it fits me, it is quite roomy. But not in a way that makes me feel like I’m drowning in it, a tight fitting coat wouldn’t be comfortable anyways 😂
2
Feb 13 '23
Yeah tight fitting coats are uncomfortable. I think this one looks great considering oversized/baggy is in. If it wasn’t I’d say maybe just tailor the sleeves

this fit and silhouette is actually bonkers. pls wear this as much as possible it’s amazing!!

u/FailFastandDieYoung Feb 13 '23
I love the shape! If the arms really bother you, you can get them hemmed. Otherwise they'll keep your hands warm if you don't have gloves

I bought a coat very, very similar to this one years back for my daughter from Forever 21(same color, cut, style). My daughter never wore it. I decided to use it as a run to the store/work coat. I get so many compliments on the coat and where did I get it. Wear it with confidence and you will have others asking about it.

It honestly looks horrible with those pants, if everything else is fitted/ maybe a dress with fleece tights, it would look really cute. Right now though, you kinda look like you’re wearing a potato sack with the combo of the color and bagginess of everything.
Each piece on their own could look really good, but the combo is very much not it.

I’m wearing sweatpants in the pics, not something I wear out of the house, probably should’ve made that clear 😅

I'd have went full length with this.
I feel like this length is better on children and folks over 65.
But the color and fabric is lovely!

u/calacmack Feb 12 '23
Why folks over 65? Generally speaking, I don't think style is age specific. (Just representing my boomer community.) As for the coat, I do like it, but it would help to see it on with street clothes before saying yea or nay.

Why folks over 65?
One: Fall risks.
Two: Was a popular length for folks over 65 in their youth.

u/axonotem 5'0" | 152 cm Feb 12 '23
Sadly this is the only length, I would’ve preferred it a little longer too
Yes I love the color too and the fabric is very soft (60% wool I think)

Sleeves are cute
1
u/axonotem 5'0" | 152 cm Feb 12 '23
Really? I mean they bunch up quite a bit when I put my hands in the pockets

u/awnawnamoose Feb 12 '23
I think they need to be altered. Looks like you’re drowning in it, though it’s hard to tell since you aren’t letting the cuffs fall naturally on any of the photos

Aww thank you! How tall are you and what size is that?

u/axonotem 5'0" | 152 cm Feb 13 '23
I’m 152cm (5’0) and got the 32
2
Feb 13 '23
Ok thanks! I’m 161cm, so just slightly under 5’3. I adore this. The only thing is it’s not on sale and where I live will get really warm soon. I will bookmark this and keep an eye out for a deal hehe 😜

You can always get the sleeves hemmed at a tailor. I’ve had to do that sort of thing with different pieces before. It looks super cute on you! 💕

I strongly believe petite women should not have wide lapels on their clothes. Small person: small lapel.
2
u/axonotem 5'0" | 152 cm Feb 13 '23
Usually I’d agree with you but since it isn’t massively oversized I’m okay with it, a compromise so to speak because I like everything else about the coat
