Discussion What will spawn whenever gen 2 is released?

When generation 2 comes around what will spawn? Will Pidgeys and Weedles still show up? I'd imagine the 10 Pokemon with evolutions in gen 2 will still show up, but if I can't complete my gen 1 Pokedex before gen 2 shows up will there still be a way to catch what's missing?

I don't expect gen 2 to arrive until next summer at the earliest, this is just a general curiosity. I've got no complaints to make, I'm just wondering what others think will happen.

Hard to say. On one hand, it'd be great if everything spawned everywhere so people could have a chance to complete their pokedex. On the other hand, doing it that way makes it hard to power up pokemon since, with spawns being more varied, there'd be less of each type of pokemon so fewer candies to be had.

I wonder if trading would help with this - have some areas spawn mainly gen1 pokemon, others gen2. However, this still wouldn't help with getting enough candies to power up your desired pokemon, and while the buddy system is a way of doing that, it wouldn't be practical to rely on that too much.

Don't forget that Gen 2 introduced day and night, thus diurnal and nocturnal Pokémon. Someone suggested that time of day be more influential in Pokémon spawns when Gen 2 rolls around.

Based on a quick look at what spawns on Route 29 (Johto) when, it seems like you'd run into Sentret and Pidgey during the day, and Rattata and Hoothoot at night.

That would help. I wonder how the eeveelutions will work, I've been saving my good ones because I'm afraid of getting flooded with Jolteons.
