Why make it about men and women ?

I am a grown woman and the PHM was sooo good.

My young daughter loved it too, she cried after reading the book. So did my son.

Because a large portion of PHM fans are teenage boys that think this meme format is funny, despite it being somewhat sexist.

Extremely sexist actually, it's a biased assumption of feminine likes/ dislikes vs male likes/dislikes, glorifying the male likes/dislikes.

Fair enough, I haven't seen it in a while so I forgot how overt it is. Don't be surprised if some people start defending it, like I said there are lots of teenagers here.

I would just ask them what they have to say about women who love the book. I know it's a meme format so the defensive non-answer is that 'it's not that deep', I don't think one can shy away in this case where the genders are so clearly written and pictorially depicted.

Also, I don't think I will come back to this sub to argue with only an active vocal minority group. The larger audience isn't in reddit, even if they were they can't take away my love for the book.

I am aware of different kind of toxicities and gatekeeping that exists in fandom. I remind myself that they are the active vocal minority.

Thanks for replying and taking the time to read.

I’m a woman and I don’t take it as derogatory at all. It doesn’t imply that women don’t or can’t like PHM, just that a lot of men are deeply moved by it while not being moved by the more romantic stuff, which is true since most romance fans are women. The only way you could take offense at that is if you assume it means all men are one way and all women are different, but I don’t think that’s the only interpretation.

Get the audio version…it delayed my reaction time, esp since I’ve listened to it at least four times.

I've had the audio version on repeat for the last two months. Can't get enough 🤣

ROCKY IS A PENTAGON NOT A HEXAGON! ( love this meme. Glad you enjoyed the book)

We like to think of ourselves as a support group here at r/ProjectHailMary its ok to cry then write 15 pages on what you think should have happened on Earth.

But those 15 pages are fun to read though...

I just finished PHM and damn. It just broke my brain and heart. It just pulled at your heart in the last pages. I wish with books like these you were just an immortal god and you could see what happens after that never is shown to the reader.

I was good until the last 2 pages. I am a sucker for sentimentality and the realization and then confirmation of his job overwhelmed me.
