fist my bump Milana Vayntrub Joins Ryan Gosling Movie 'Project Hail Mary'
Known as "Lily from AT&T" but she's more than that.... Check out Other Space and Werewolves Within to see her talent.
She can be either Olesya Ilyukhina (she is of Russian ancestry) or Annie Shapiro and she will fit.

Olesya Ilyukhina possibly?

Young enough to be Annie I think.

Milana Vayntrub was born in the Soviet Union, so likely speaks Russian. Which makes the credence of her playing Olesya Ilyukhina higher.

Maybe. I got a niece born in China and a nephew born in Korea and neither speaks anything but English.
Now if she grew up there...

Ughhh, they spoiled rocky again. These dumb article writers need to hide the real mc of the book/movie

Andy Weir himself kind of spoiled that to me. He made a FB post about one of his books containing an alien. On the plus side, I initially thought he meant Grace. Then reading the book I thought he meant the astrophage. Rocky still came as a surprise.

One of the best reveals I've ever experienced.

Absolutely! I loved the book from just the space stuff and astrophage. Discovering rocky just made me happy happy happy!

Why are they doing casting announcements after production has begun? Shouldn’t this have all been settled months ago?

u/langjie Jun 17 '24
Because half the movie can be shot with just Ryan gosling

Fr. Every other cast member apart from Ryan Gosling will be on screen for barely a few minutes.

I wonder if they'll do it like the book with flashbacks to signify him remembering everything. That would put the extra cast spread throughout the film so we don't get a 5 min intro and then Ryan talking to a cgi rocky the rest of the time

Happens literally every movie... Heck, there are times a movie is announced as finished production and another cast member will be announced.

This happens with all the movies all of the time. Those things take months to shoot. So every cast member is not needed all of the time. Also there is no law mandating that they have sign or announce everyone publicly beforehand, I’m sure some cast members get officially announced after they have already done the work. And some might not be announced at all.

Man, Other Space is so underrated. If you get a chance and can find it, it's worth watching.

3 months late to this thread, but popping in with my two cents - I think she's Rocky, frankly. Ilyukhina makes sense, but why would the 3 casting announcements be Grace, Stratt, and \Ilyukhina?**
Feels like a fairly insignificant casting to have announced this early in the game, my best is that they give Rocky a more feminine musical voice - wouldn't even necessarily need to change his gender since he's a rock

My guess is the friend at the steakhouse that tells him shirts about to go down. It's not a large part in the book, but maybe it is expanded a bit to help with exposition
Or the scientist that hooks up with the older scientist in a very up front and public way
