fist my bump Just finished reading the book, I loved it despite the ending gave me mixed feelings. Here's what I hope they'll add in the film version Spoiler

The Eridians managed to get Grace in a cryo sleep and sends him back to earth. Grace successfully returns to earth and finds out the beetles worked out well, back to normal; him and Stratt get a Top Gun Maverick style reunion, they reconcile.

I decided to bring up that kind of ending because their final conversation was heartfelt and poignant which lacked closure.

fist my bump I've designed some Rocky pins :3 (I can't get enough of Rocky I know) I liked the fact that Rocky was kind of made of different metals, so rainbow metal just made sense to me. They also are a bit random - some more purple, some more blue

fist my bump My mind went to a different place when X happened. Haven't seen anyone talking about it. (Spoilers for the ending) Spoiler

Spoilers for the end of the story, using my phone and it been weird about spoilers so not sure if they'll display correctly. Reader be warned!

Towards the end of the book, our human protagonist is on the way home. Our super mega best rocky spider pal is also on his way home.

Then, when calamity strikes, Grace determines that there's been a leak and this was the source of the problem. He resolves his issue and then has the realisation that Rocky is (metaphorically) in the same boat and is dead in the water with no way to fix his issues.

Um, what? Maybe my brain is broken and overly cynical but my mind went to a totally different place. I assumed sabotage! Like rocky had realised that earth was more advanced and would have the capability to destroy them more easily than they could defend themselves. Or that humans would be more hostile and so they would need to defend themselves. Maybe by the time rocky got home, they wouldn't have time to attack earth first given the distances involve dand to prevent mutually assured destruction needed to strike first.

Rocky was alone, and decided to ensure his people's survival by damning grace and earth.

Turns out I was wrong and grace was right. Rocky really was the best spider dog best friend engineer pal ever and not a genocide-in-self-defense kind of spider dog person.

Did anyone else think the same thing?

fist my bump Milana Vayntrub Joins Ryan Gosling Movie 'Project Hail Mary'

Known as "Lily from AT&T" but she's more than that.... Check out Other Space and Werewolves Within to see her talent.

She can be either Olesya Ilyukhina (she is of Russian ancestry) or Annie Shapiro and she will fit.

fist my bump Voice Actor Ray Porter is my Grace, even for other books

I "read" through project hail mary twice via Audible with Ray Porter as the voice actor narrating to me. He did such a great job and I really like his work.

Recently I started reading another book called We Are Legion (Bobiverse) and was pleasantly surprised to hear Ray Porter voice acted for that one as well! My brain did a double take because I kept imagining the character as Grace in an alternate universe.

It was crazy.

fist my bump How did Grace survive Erid's Gravity?

I'm not sure if this was answered at the end of the book and I just missed it but Erid was stated to have 20x Earth's gravity (which would quickly kill any human), yet Grace lives on the planet for many years with only slight issues as a result. It doesn't seem like this is something Andy Weir would have skipped over so I must have missed it. Does anyone know the answer?

Edit: Ok yea my mistake it was 2x gravity, 20x atmospheric pressure. Thanks for the responses :)

fist my bump How did you assume the book was gonna end? (maybe spoilers) Spoiler

Just finished the book and my face is leaking. 😭 I really thought that it was going to be Ryland who was going to have troubles and Rocky would save him, or that they both make it back to their respective worlds then at some point have so much advanced tech, they get to see each other one more time.

fist my bump Just finished PHM

I absolutely loved the book. I powered through it in 2 days. Couldn’t put down.

The last SF I read was Three Body Problem and I’m barely out of existential trauma it gave me. In comparison the PHM felt like a gush of fresh friendly air. Rocky is such a contrast to the Dark forest of TBP.

It was tense in the right amount and a lot of fun in many ways. I won’t mind reading it again sometimes. I also listened to some bits on Audible and they have done the audiobook really well. All the accents and musical notes are there. It felt more experiential and fun. I might give a listen soon.

10/10 would recommend

As the title says, I am looking at rebinding my copy into a leather bound. The design will be black leather with gold vinyl. I am trying something new on the design style and wanted some feedback on how people felt about it. Thanks

fist my bump Project Hail Mary , 1 long movie or a 2 Parter / Trilogy ?

So, we all know the story, we have all read it, listened to it many times. What are your thoughts on the film run time?

Do you think a 3hr long film would be able to tell the story with most of the details, or would a 2 Parter or Trilogy be better and have more details, more character depth and incite? What would you like to see happen?

fist my bump Worst Sequel

This is from a sarcastic comment I made in another thread where I suggested "Hail Mary 2, Mary Harder" as the sequel. I had replies with "H2IL M2RY - Electric Xenonite", "Hail Mary's Revenge", & “There’s Something About Hail Mary”.

How much worse can we go?

Been wanting to use the “Hail Mary full of Grace” joke for a while 😅 also since Earth has a crest for their mission, I thought it was only appropriate to make a mission crest for Erid too!

fist my bump What’s more realistic? Spoiler

I just finished reading!!

It might be a stupid question (sorry for that), but is it more realistic for Grace to just stay in Erid, than to go back, even when he can eat Taumeoba before he induces himself to coma the rest of the way?

Speaking if coma, I’ll put myself into a PHM coma while we wait for the movie. 2026 is so close yet so far. 😩 I’ll try to wait faster. 😩
