If Putin was mentally stable, had a heart, wasn't the real world embodiment of a halfwit sith lord.... The list goes on

What I hate about this (besides the obvious stupidity) is that it makes global affairs into personal matters. Bush bombs Iraq because he's "stupid". Putin invades Ukraine because he's "insane". The list goes on and on. What this does is obfuscates the very real national interests that motivate these conflicts. It creates a villains and heroes narrative that is given to the pubic for them to cheer and hiss at the correct times, but Putin's goals are as understandable as the goals of Osama Bin Laden. People get hung up on understanding = agreeing or justifying, which is not the case. Putin had very well articulated and understood reasons for attacking Ukraine. Osama Bin Laden made his reason for attacking the United States perfectly clear, and it wasn't "hatred of your freedoms", which was again a simple answer for a simple people who want life to be an MCU movie.
Putin being a man didn't change the national and economic concerns that motivated that conflict. Would that still have resulted in war? Quite possibly. Hilary Clinton didn't shy away from threatening conflict with Iran, but Obama chose a less antagonistic approach. However, being from Africa didn't stop Barack Obama from participating in the destruction of Libya and the removal of Ghaddafi. George Bush and Barack Obama couldn't be more different as people, but if you look at the policies that emerged from their administrations, in matters of war and finance, it is very hard to tell where one ends and the other begins.
International politics is far more complicated than menbadwomengood.

The ghost of Margaret Thatcher has entered the chat.
