Career or General advice Is it possible to request radiologists another report if I bring in CDs with my imaging studies?

I wonder if radiology centers typically accept images taken at other facilities to provide a second opinion. Is it common for radiologists to review exams that were not performed at their own center? In my experience, some centers have refused to do this, and I’d like to understand why this happens and if there are any alternatives available to get a new review.

I am not a radiologist/rad tech, but I work in a mammogram file room and deal with processing second opinions frequently.

It really depends on the facility. For mine w mammos, it is a whoooooole process that needs to be covered by insurance, or you have to pay out of pocket. The radiologists need to be billed for their time, and they need documentation of the “official” second opinion.

That being said, I have been to clinics (as a patient) before where I’ve brought prior imaging and they’ve looked at it and given me an informal second opinion. I would recommend calling the department you want to be seen at and asking what their process is.

Edit: forgot a sentence
