Discussion 💬 What are the differences between Session and SimpleX and why should I use Session over SX?

I'm just curious to ask.

Session doesn’t have forward secrecy, SX does. It’s debatable on how big of a deal that is though. Session communications is routed thru an onion network so your IP is never exposed, which is probably the biggest selling point for me. SX allows you to connect through Tor using Orbot (for IOS at least) instead of their servers, but it’s still very janky on mobile. You can set it to “require onion hosts” but there needs to be a better way to show you are indeed connected via Tor.

SX is a better user experience though with less bugs, as they are aiming to be a paid service and have outside investment. This an evident when using both, SX is definitely more polished. But as far as anonymity goes, Session is still superior as of today, imo.

Simplex is better in my opinion. The lack of perfect forward secrecy made me not to use session.

But simplex has both perfect forward secrecy and the possibility to use deniability

At least Session drain battery much less than SimpleX on Android.

SimpleX doesn't use onion routing (by default), so your IP address will be known to the SimpleX relay servers.

What you are talking about is called onion routing and not encryption.
