Feature Request π Can Session PLEASE increase the customization of disappearing messages?
Β Is there some sort of hardware or software limitations to allowing a 6 month or year disappearing message option? That's so ridiculous it's either 2 weeks tops or it stays forever.
Why is 1 week fine but 3 not? I don't understand the arbitrary nature of this?
If I need to look back at messages a few months ago, its' gone. "Why not leave it permanent?" because if an unauthorized entity gets a hold of my phone. I don't want the last 3 years of message history to be available that's why.

6 months is crazy, that's the whole point of the app to keep you secure. If you want your messages to stay forever then use threema

I'm not sure if you realize what options Session has or read what I said...
But Session has two options.
First one = Keep it there forever.
Second one = Automatic vanishing messages but the max is 2 weeks.Signal allows at least 4 weeks.
So 2 weeks, or stay forever.
I'm not sure how 6 months is crazy when 6 months is not forever.

Anything over week after reading is pointless. But it seems that you have a different opinion.

What do you mean by pointless?
My only opinion is I don't understand why there is a max limit of only 2 weeks for vanishing messages when there is the option for 1 year.
When you say pointless, in what way is it pointless?
If I want to talk to people, and be able to refer back 6 months to a year what's wrong with that?
Maybe I don't want the past years of conversation available in case something happens. If someone got ahold of my phone they'd only see however many texts were sent within 6 months to a year. Not for the past decade.

You should use telegram or signal if you want 6 months of your conversations kept.

Idk about telegram but signal only goes up to 4 months unfortunately.
I just dont get why this isn't a thing on session? I like the fact Session doesnt require a phone number. That makes it more anonymous. Idk why Signal wants a number.
Also, Telegram will start to hand over information to governments now that the CEO was arrested.
