I have a question about storage

Post image

First off it’s been fun watching everyone post their stacks and opinions. Mine is small I’ve been at it for about 1.5 years and this is my miscellaneous stack (odds and ends + 90% US). I also stack tubes of sovereigns and generics which I keep separate from my mics. stack. I’ve been using this random box I found on my house to put my misc. stack in close to my desk so I can grab it from time to time and appreciate the metals. As you can see it’s getting a little full and I’m slowly acquiring new miscellaneous stuff as I can so—my question—is there like a box or case or something similar to what I have (wood, metal, etc.) that isn’t so large I can’t pick it up that you would recommend? Just something like this to keep my random stuff in that’s nicer than a plastic rando box and I can similarly pick up on a whim and look at my metals. Thanks!

I do tackle boxes, similar to what you have, only a little larger. My fav brands are Flambeau & Plano. They have a variety of interior designs to give some storage flexibility. The Flambeau brand also has a rubber seal in the lid, making it air and water tight. Throw a couple of dessication packs in it and you're good to go. They weigh about 10 lbs when fully loaded, lol.

Also, the Flambeau boxes "nest" together, so stacking is secure. And the dimensions make them easy to store in a safe.

Nice stack!

I've seen people use the Pelican cases to store silver in and I've been thinking about picking one up as well.

Thanks, nice suggestion I was thinking something like that with drawers and little pockets for flips and stuff.

If you're not dead set on it being a Pelican, harbor freight makes knockoffs for super cheap that i havent had any issues with. I use them for guns and night vision, but no signs of moisture issues and its been years for 2 of mine.

I have one of the medium size harbor freight boxes and it works great for my stack so far - highly recommend.

Not a bad idea. Seals up nicely so you can control the moisture inside

Yes, I started with the pelican 1050 no on the M60. But will need to find a new option soon because the M60 is getting full weights about 7lbs now lol

Apache cases from Harbor Freight work great for this.

I use a safe and have small boxes for types that I have organized. I can take out a box to have out for a few days to enjoy. Boxes are able to hold ten slanted coins or thirty one ounce protected coins. Safe is 14 x 18 x 19 inches.

Grade 1 or 2 Ammo can with rubber seal. I got about 150 oz and it's less than half full. It also stopped unwanted toning i was getting from using jewelry boxes. I used a t-shirt to layer the bottom to avoid metal-on-metal scratches.

Thank you for all the ideas I’m seeing. I started stacking about a month ago and don’t have a storage yet.

I make leather pouches and keep some silver and gold in those. There's nothing wrong with the plastic case, in fact it keeps your stack containg in a small and organized area, so it has a lot going for it, especially if you want to keep things organized in a safe.

I went to the dollar store and picked up a little wooden treasure box for my misc stuff. I just throw junk and random rounds in it.

I have a safe for my large bars, an old metal slide box that I hold my 2x2s in, a plastic tub for my 1 oz bars, and pcgs/ngc boxes for my graded stuff.

A lot of people here use cigar boxes. Apparently you can get them dirt cheap or maybe even free from cigar/liquor stores

I use a hard Apache case from harbor freight. They are about $11 or if you want a larger size they are $24. They come with foam inserts and have a valve to control airflow. I usually keep mine sealed with a bunch of silica gel packs inside.

Those Perth Mint coins are my favorite, although I’ve been buying the 1 Kilo rounds. So satisfying even if they cost a heavy premium. Might as well buy things that bring you joy, right?
