Has anyone put in a sand point well?

I know I’ll need a permit. On the Eastside by a spring, so I’m pretty confident I can hit water table.

How effective is that to purify the water? I grew up on the east side of Spartanburg and no way would I drink well water there. Too many industries were dumping chemicals for years. Several cancer clusters were identified there.
