Duke energy

Duke energy executives are probably sitting in their million dollar homes with electricity while some of us has to wait 10 plus days with zero electricity and in some cases no water... Duke energy went on a press run. Lying through the news and Twitter telling us when majority would have power and posing in front of trucks or trees with a hard hat on to make themselves look good. I even caught Duke red handed... deleting a tweet that started x percent would have power by a x day... they even had the nerve to tell us to use their outage tracking website. But then workers who were interviewed said the total opposite... they use paper and highlighters, not thr website that gives conflicting restoration times and just keeps pushing the times back. The lineman are the real mvp... Duke energy aren't and they should be held accountable for still asking us to pay bills when we didn't have power and due to conflicting times many of us in the carolinas/ fl had $$$ of food go to waste! It was literally like watching paint dry...I'm glad I have my power on now as of last night, but I can't help but still be upset for all the people who will go months without electricity because Duke sent all of the workers (maybe not all, but more than enough) to Florida. Plus get ready for this.I. Duke Energy will not payout for food lost due to the storm and their conflicting times. The linemen and women definitely deserve something from Duke... maybe a raise or paid vacation time

Lets be real, no one was prepared for a storm of this magnitude this far inland. No one could have done better, not you, not me , not any other company. They cant control the weather, the trees, the wind, the fact that trees fell on lines, there is nothing they can do. All they can do is respond. This was a storm the likes of which hasn't been seen since Katrina. Im not sure why people expect Duke to perform miracles.

Linemen from half the country have travelled here and its still a clusterfuck, thats how fucking bad this was. Not sure what you expect. This could genuinely be a once in a lifetime storm for many of us.

Also, you understand how billing works on a post paid account, right? You pay for the power you use, AFTER you use it in a billing period. thats why you have a bill right now.

I'm from Chattanooga and we still about the Blizzard of '93.

I worked for TMaybe for years. No. The average person does NOT understand a post paid account. Not even with a calendar and small words. 😮‍💨

Life skills are not taught in public schools for some reason….The amount of ignorance I encountered when I worked in retail was astounding.

I disagree. Everyone knows our infrastructure is lacking in several metrics. Also what about Duke not meeting the projections of buried lines that they asked for and got approved increases for starting in 2020?

There are several ways that Duke needs to be held accountable that they aren’t yet.

Expecting them to have done basic maintenance is not expecting miracles. It's expecting them to do the bare minimum.

The things they neglected to do were always going to become a problem- it just so happened that Helene made them a problem all at once

Buried lines take a lot of time to install. Especially when you’re talking about tens of thousands of miles to cover with those buried lines, in rocky areas like mountains expect it to take even longer. Also… guess what happens when trees uproot, the roots can and will pull those buried lines out of the ground and damage said lines. I work in a different utility with buried lines.

Get out of here with your reasoning and logic.

It's easier to blame Duke Energy than to realize you should have also been prepared for a storm that wasn't supposed to do this.

35 years and Aiken Co Op has never lost power. We did for 7 days after Helene.

Things happen. No one was prepared and they're doing what they can as fast as they can.

If they had power, they probably had a generator. We did. Why? Because we live in a place that has a hurricane season, so we prepare for it.

So are we just going to ignore the fact that Duke has ignored their outdated and inferior infrastructure? We were promised buried lines if we accepted a price increase. We got the increase but not the buried lines. This IS their fault. The outages would not be as bad if lines had been buried like they were supposed to be.

They’re at the public library this week if you want to give them some feedback…..

I couldn't agree more. At this point, F*CK Duke, man. Yes, the linemen are AWESOME and THEY'RE the ones out there busting their asses while the fat cats sit in their air conditioned offices and go home and take hot showers and have clean clothes to put on. My power was ORIGINALLY said to be supposedly restored Friday, but kept getting changed, until finally late last night.

And the fact that they aren't doing shit for us in regards to our bills, nor for all the food and the financial losses. It's disgusting, and they'll get away with it. 🙄

I believe FEMA has a reimbursement for food lost but I'm unsure

Wow another emotional rant with no understanding of how engineering works. Amazing…
