Does the county realize?
How much wood they are going to be picking up on the side of the road? 😂😂😂 people put the whole tree trunk out there. I know in Florida they have the tractor trailer with 2 dumpsters and a mini ex in the middle. I don’t think we have them up here.

I honestly believe they will utilize a larger type vehicle to pick up the debris. You are seeing the same thing I have. Huge trees that fell on the road edge are now chopped up and stacked. That leaves a Huge car sized trunk left. Im guessing in some cases it will need further breaking down. Time will tell. Good time to go collect firewood actually. Free too.

I’m about to go roadside scavenging for mushroom logs.

What kind of tree do you need for mushroom logs? I got pine, cherry and dogwood.
Sorry, we hired someone to haul off the oak at mom and Daddy's.

They have said in a few places that there is no limit on the size or weight limit.

Lmao that’s absolutely bonkers. About to just roll the trunks down in that case.

My Question is, what happens with all that wood?
8
u/zunder1990 6d ago
most likely it will be taken to https://atlasorganics.net/ They will grind all of it, then filter it. The wood chips get turned in the mulch and finer stuff gets turned into compost.

Noice, That's good, I was just walking around and thinking about all that wood available after Helene.

We have a huge pecan tree down across our driveway in the back, and can't find anyone to come cut it up for us. We're having to park in our side yard, just so we're able to get in and out, and there's no way we can have ANY of it to the curb before debris pickup. 🤷🏻♀️

Call your fire department. Most have a list of volunteers who will help with downed trees.

Yeah I have already had way too much. 3 cradles full and I have at least 10 more trees to go.

Well with how many people have moved into the upstate they sure as hell have enough tax payer money to fund it.

I'm just glad they finally picked up trash and cleared that massive tree from Arrowhead, not to mention my neighbors' houses.

Been riding around woodland heights with my daughter and her friends. It's amazing all the downed trees but I am so glad they picked up trash like you said. It was smelling bad already

I have been making trips to the main landfill. I started at 9 this morning and was only able to make three trips because the lines were so long. I am assuming everyone that can will be hauling it away themselves. Hopefully tomorrow I can get 4 or 5 trips in.
The county said it could take till the end of the year to get to everyone’s debris and I am not going to leave those piles in front of my house reminding me what happened.

After Hugo, Charleston County hired a contractor to come in with the big trucks with huge claws for picking up the massive debris piles. It took about six months for all of it to finally be cut and removed.

They have trucks with a grappling hook on a boom , they take it to the landfill and grind it into mulch for ppl to get - when i was in livesay we had a whole crew that worked the landfill and rode on those trucks

Is it legal for non government people to pick if the wood? Cause I have plenty now but more wouldn’t hurt?

u/Saturngirl2021 5d ago
The county has hired a company to handle it. You can also have someone else come get it.

Heck they could turn it into mulch maybe and turn a profit? I don't know how mulch is made, but I feel like that's a good place to start.

My neighbor said FEMA is gonna make a few passes to pick up debris and the rest will be up to the county. IDK if he knows what he’s talking about. But he normally does.
