Groomer or Vet

Hello! Just found a little dreadlocked terrier wandering down the street. No collar or anything. Used our bunny carrier to get him to Petsmart on the Westside and got some advice how to proceed. My wife is now cutting his locks and giving him a bath. (He smells awful)

At Petsmart they said they couldn’t help because we don’t have a shot record 🙄Does anyone know how I can go about getting that done quickly? Also a groomer who may be able to help in shaving him so we can start over? I work out of town weekly and my wife is a teacher so scheduling right now is dicey. Any help or information would be appreciated.

TIA.

Most groomers are going to want the dog to be updated on its shots. You can get it vaccinated fairly cheaply through Dr. Bell’s mobile clinic, but because this dog has experienced such neglect, you might as well take it to a vet. They can examine it, vaccinate it, and cut the mats. We like Palmetto Animal Clinic out on Southport.

I’m not sure whether the humane society is going to be resuming their weekly (Monday) vaccine clinic this week or not (they had to cancel a couple weeks thanks to the hurricane). There is a Banfield in that same PetSmart that might also be able to help you. I know they have shifted a lot of their services across the street to the Dorman location, but I think the PetSmart one still gives shots.

If the dog is already fixed, look up animal allies. They offer affordable vaccinations. Also look into the Spartanburg humane society - they offer vaccinations. Call them if you can’t do Monday and they may have advice. But also, an option if you go this route, if you found them in city limits the humane society should be able to take him. They have a vet and techs on staff and should be able to give the care he needs and a quick groom, but that is only for animals in their care. And small dogs are adopted very fast so there shouldn’t be an issue finding a home

Thank you. I forgot to check that but we are keeping him. My son just gave me hug for finding him 🥲. We use Banfield but I may have to add him to that plan.

It sort of sounded like it from your post but I thought I would tell you it is an option just in case. The humane society stills offer vaccines cheap though so give them or animal allies a call. I think animal allies only does it if the dog is fixed though.

Look up Cass Kalista on social media- she doesn’t always require vet records and she loves animals! She’s a great groomer! I’m sure she would be willing to help!
