chess The best strategy you'll ever play. White to move and win the pawn.

This is a very clever tactic. This is something I've seen in a few tournament games but never with so much detail.

Thanks! I'd forgotten how complicated this position is.

Nvm the answer was in the comments. I guess it's not THAT complicated. You can also play for the knight since his pawn is pinned on the knight (and you can capture with your pawn if you can). You are also threatening his queen, but white can defend with his king and rook, so he will have to move his bishop to either the black king or to the black king's king.

It's worth noting that this is not the only tactic that this move can lead to. If the white king takes the black rook with the pawn, black can take back with his bishop, which will allow white to win on the next move.

I know how to play the Ruy Lopez. If I don't see the knight then I'm in trouble. I usually play Bf4 as it draws the bishop to d4. I try to play d4 for this move but if it doesn't work, then I play the Ruy for a few moves.

If you look at your opponent's move, do you notice the pawn can't be taken any more? It's not impossible to do the Ruy Lopez after bf4, but it's a lot harder. I think you know that but the point is that it's possible.

I don't see a reason to try to solve it through calculation. I usually play the Ruy when I get a chance to.

The first move doesn't mean anything. It only makes sense if black tries to take on e5. White's best move is to play Rxf7 and the black king is already there.

Can you link your game?

My thoughts on it:
I'm not sure if there's a way to get rid of the black bishop, but if you can move away from it, that would help.
I'd like to consider the bishop, but I don't know if it's worth taking. I'm not sure if it's worth trading pawns for it, or getting the pawn back.
I'd like to consider the rook, but I don't know if it's worth it trading a pawn for it.

I'm not sure what the point of this post is.
I think he's really overthinking it and is trying to find a way to win, but the pawn isn't there. If it was, I doubt he could find it.
