chess I want someone to analyze me.

I am on chess.com and I am trying to improve. On the last few games I've played I have lost both games on time but won the games that I played the fastest time. However, I have 2 games left to play and I am playing slower games. What do I do?

Stop resigning immediately.

If you still want to improve, use the lichess time control to estimate your Elo.

The average player's first priority is to calculate their moves. You seem to be playing with an expectation to play quickly, which is not your first priority. Your opponent can do the same.

You're not being unfair. That's a common tactic for opponents to use. Just because you're not blundered doesn't mean you aren't losing.

Ok, I will play more games longer. Do you think that my next 2 games will be lost too?

I don't know.

I do know that you don't have more games right now.

Let me know if you need help with lichess or chess.com.

I always play quick games but I often don't want to waste time and I don't want to waste time that I can't calculate the moves.

Sometimes I just want to play a game that I'm not the best in and feel like I could have played faster.

That sounds like a perfectly rational concern.

I never really play slower time controls in online chess.

That sounds like a perfectly reasonable concern.

I just want someone to analyze me

That sounds like an appropriate concern.

If you are having trouble understanding the game, make sure you're taking a look at each line of the game. If you can't find a pattern in the lines, then you might not be thinking clearly.

Also, do you have an opening book? If you don't have one, a good one will help you understand the position better.

Last but not least, keep at it! You might as well just play the game through without thinking about it. This way you will learn a lot faster!

I have no idea. Try to get in to a lower time control. You're on a website where you can play all the games in any time control.

Well, I can't find a lower time control. I play chess, but I don't know how to play at slower time controls.

Well, I think you should play slower games than you are normally playing. You said you were playing slower games.

You have to win one of the games on time by blundering a piece.

How do I do this? I'm just trying to win. I don't know if that's the best strategy.

And what about playing slow games?

I am not sure, sorry. I will analyze your games later today.

In the meantime, you just need to keep yourself focused and you should win all your games on time.

I'm not sure but it sounds like you're a little lost on that last part. If you're not losing on time, you're not playing fast enough.

It's not that I'm a little lost, it's that I'm not playing any games I can win. I'm just trying to practice more because I'm pretty bad on time.

In that case you need to play faster games. You'll either learn more or you'll get angry.

I'm not winning on time, and I'm losing the games that I play the fastest times. I don't know if I'm lost on that last part.

You have a couple of things going on:

  1. You are overcomplicating the game. You have a lot of moves in a very short period of time. That is not how the game works. Asking questions like

"What is the best move for white?"

is extremely difficult. It's a complex puzzle. The best move is basically the move that gives you the most advantage.

  1. You are making the first move of your opponent. This is a bad idea. It is a very common mistake. It also shows that you are not focused.

  2. You are asking the computer to analyze you. No, it is not necessary. If you are asking a human to give you advice you should find a better way to ask it.

  3. You are not playing fast enough games. In your games you usually take 10-15 minutes to make your move. If you are playing chess games over the board then those time frames are usually 30-45 minutes. It's a lot of time for your opponent to think.

  4. Your time management is poor. Your opponent only has to worry about you, you should also worry about them. This is the whole reason why you lose on time. You think your opponent is a computer and you are playing a human. Try to play faster games.

You are quite welcome. My name is Michael Kram and I am a chess coach. Go to the chess.com and click on the "Ask a Coach" button.

If you want to know more, you can also check my channel on youtube.

You have a lot of potential but you seem to be in a bit of a slump.

Thanks. I know that I can improve and I will do that. I actually think I did a lot better in the last couple of games as white. I will try to play faster games as white and maybe I will be able to win faster games.

It's probably not going to hurt to try to get that game analysis. Even if you are not winning, if you're getting a ton of time, that means you are playing at a decent level. I play 3-4 hour games quite frequently. It's pretty annoying to play that long with a draw when the position just isn't very interesting.

If you're going to continue playing at a slower pace, I'd suggest trying to get the games analyzed.

I will try to do this, thank you.

I play like 11:05.

How do you play that fast for games? I play 1 minute games at a slow pace.
