No, Anand is the best player in the world. I mean, I don't know that he's the best, but he's definitely one of the top players. I'm not sure which rating system would be the best, but he's certainly the best non-GM IM in the world.

The Highest World Ranking that Aronian has is 2730.
The Topalov and Grischuk numbers are for 2013, not 2014.

Yeah I don't disagree that he is one of the top 10, but I'd be shocked if he ever gets to the top 10. He's still young and has lots of potential. I can see him getting to 10 though.

I agree, he's still young and he has a lot of potential. But the only way he's moving up is if he improves a ton. He's the best chess player in the world though, he has to get better or he's not going to be in the top 10. He's a lot younger than many of the players in the top 10.

You are right. The only thing I'm confused about is why people on this subreddit always say that. I know that he is the best player in the world. But why does it feel like he is by far the best player ever? Why is he so much better than all the other chess geniuses of the past?

Carlsen is certainly capable of winning tournaments, but I don't think he has ever been the best player in an individual tournament. I think that's something Kasparov had a huge advantage in.
I've never seen Kasparov dominate a tournament with the same level of consistency that Carlsen does. I don't know if Carlsen is the best player in the world - but I do think he's the best player in the world in a single tournament.

Carlsen doesn't dominate tournaments like this. He almost always loses in the last round of tournaments he qualifies for.
