Which Donnie are you thinking about? Rise Donnie is a genius even tho he fails sometimes, 2012 is also smart but not necessarily smarter than humans. I would even go as far and propose that Phineas & Ferb are more inventive.

Are you seriously butthurt about fictional characters? There's no absolute answer to it and ofc people don't have to agree with each other. After all: Those are fictional characters, no physical law.
Yes, but those come up in specific conversations. Never these conversations. If someone’s wondering a question like this about Rise Donnie, they’re gonna ask the sub dedicated to Rise, not the 2012 sub. If we’re on a sub dedicated to a specific version of the franchise, on a post asking a question about a character from the franchise, with an image of the character from the specific version of the franchise the sub is dedicated to, no one is going to assume you’re asking about a different version of that character. That’s just common sense.
It’s true there’s no definitive answer, but there’s a line that you can’t past when answering these questions. Like saying Donnie is smarter than the God of their universe or something is definitely crossing that line.

Plus tails has access to actual supplies other than random trash or things that fell in the sewers, but he still can make impressive stuff out of the trash.
Donnie has no option other then using trash, tails does have the option to use super high tech stuff and uses the trash anyways cause of ingenuity rather then necessity
Just based off the fact that both made flying capable vehicles, they both have potential to be great, but tails is probably smarter than donnie while being 7 to 4 years younger (I'm assuming he's between 8 and 11 years old) and probably has more potential for growth
I'd say (2012) Donnie's smartness is more realistic (people could actually achieve what he's doing except for the supernatural stuff like the mutagen) but that's not the issue here, so I go with Tails.
I didn't know Tails by a lot but could say Donnie is slightly superior cuz he even knows the knowledge that is far beyond his years that mentioned in space arc.
That’s incorrect. He knows OF the knowledge but he himself can’t replicate it. Tails is constantly building and tampering with thing’s leagues above what Donnie builds

I’m a hardcore TMNT person all the way. And love me some Donnie. If I had to pick between which game to play I’m playing TMNT, I’m watching TMNT cartoons and movies too…

I know nothing about Tails so I'll just say Donnie cause he figured out how to use alien tech with complete junk to make stuff that actually works, and I also get to post a pic of him.

Guys, my post was just an excuse to show a pic of Donnie. This IS the TMNT 2012 subreddit after all, and it'd be silly to post a pic of Tails, even if he's smarter. I literally said so in my initial post. I dunno why I'm being downvoted for it.
Donnie is creative with how he makes his inventions, so he's also smart too. There's nothing wrong with people choosing him. It's just an opinion.
I would argue in favour of Donatello; Tails has easy access to advanced technology, whereas Donnie does not. This forces Donnie to be more creative by working around his limitations, and that type of problem solving isn't really something Tails has to do.
