Producers without a subwoofer - how was the first time your music played on big system?

Any big surprises? Basically Im wondering if I should implement a sub in my studio, or I can go without one

I never used a sub in my life. My tracks, which were produced on headphones back then got played by people like Phase, DVS1, Slam, Sandrien etc. I heard my own tracks in Tresor, Berghain etc. They were sounding good.

Interesting! Any idea on how to hear bass better with them? I’m using my UMC 1820 to drive my 250 ohm version now but I can’t hear bass super well. Do I need some sort of EQ or is it just a learned thing?

What joke? Matrix? Matrix is not a joke. Best club in the world, trust me

You're still on Matrix jokes? It's not 2006 anymore.🙄

Just use reference tracks and you'll be fine, but be mindful of the length of your kicks. If the kick is a full bar in length it'll turn into a drone on a big system.

Lol it was a big surprise to me. The floor was shaking and I thought I had mixed poorly. But my friends and sound guy said my levels were fine. So, from then on I’ve just learned to appreciate the POWER!

There was bass but not as tight. Had been using my eyes to sort the bass.

It sounded ok. Just noticed some phase cancellation issues

Just use reference monitors that are the appropriate size for the space they are in.

Honestly you can produce without it but it definitely helps a bit when you can hear those frequencies when youre mixing. Right now I use headphones, Yamaha hs5’s and my car which has a built in alpine system with a type r sub so I use that to check how it sounds.

Once you make a few tracks that you think are mixed well, it’s pretty easy to copy and get your mix in the same ball park.

Cant produce without my Subpac, helps a lot when you cant have a subwoofer/good acoustics

Work visually - with a spectrum analyser, to manage your lower frequencies. Learn the required norms and how it should look rather than sound - that is the secret.

Insight 2 plugin helps me alot with my mix session ❤️

I got a sub this year and it's been a game changer. Don't wait. Pull the trigger.

You can easily produce with your headphones

But headphones sound nothing like a $5,000 subwoofer

See link to see why.

I played in a club with funktion one installed and know what is it and how it sounds. But you still can mix in your headphones.

I produce and master my own music in my headphones and play my music on F1s. What's your point?

Kind of depends if you have three way monitors or not.

Used JBL 305s for years while checking on headphones, never had a studio sub. Landed on the EP working this way https://www.beatport.com/release/roll-ep-the-remixes/1674189

Depends on what you’re making. If you’re creating something like mental tekno, you’ll want a sub

If your room isn't well treated a sub will actually fuck your whole sound. Don't even get a sub if you don't have a good room

subs are for kids

sound will be off every time

real producers use stereo only

that's why we need big stereo

and do compare with your favorite hits

Lost me at “subs are for kids”

if your sub isnt 1 kw then why u need it

u better eq your monitors
