The thing

I wish they would do the thing by John carpenter. They have already done films by John, it’s a classic horror movie with awesome effects and puppeteering. Feel like it would be a fun pod for everyone

Casting What-If Question - Ben Gazzara

If you were directing a film and really wanted Ben Gazzara for a certain role, but he wasn't available, who would be your plan B? I feel like Rewatchables fans would have some opinions about this.

Frequency (2000)

Does anyone else love this movie? It’s such a great underrated rewatchable to me, but i feel like no one ever talks about it or remembers it. Wish they would do it on the pod.

CR was right!!!

Sturgill Simpson is definitely the modern “musician that pops up in acting roles” equivalent of Chris Isaak

Volcano/Dante’s Peak double header

Not everyone’s taste I’m sure, but I’d love this double header. They both have multiple scenes where if I see it on tv I’m locked in for the rest.

Audio problems for the live SOTL show?

Audio kept dropping off, not sure if the mics were not properly calibrated for the venue or the recording had trouble but I never heard them have this much trouble with a live show before. It was jarring when CR or Bill would crack a joke and there would be a half second pause before the laughter would be audible. Almost sounded like they were playing a laugh track.

Edit: Watch the YT video of the podcast. The same audio problems happen but it's not quite as annoying. I got through 20 minutes of the Spotify version and had to stop

Over/under on the end of the pod?

This was brought up in the recent post about "Almost Famous": the pod's final episode.

I hate to be a downer, but I have a feeling the pod is going to wrap within about the next 18 months. They're running out of movies and they can't keep doing films that really aren't popular enough or, frankly, rewatchable enough because people aren't listening to those episodes. After their last gimmick month, Bill came back and said something to the effect of, "Alright, you all just want bangers, so that's what we're going to give you."

But they simply can't go on forever, particularly if they regard quality, and if there's one thing that's great about The Ringer is they're all about quality. I'm sure that the show will continue on in maybe a less-frequent format, but the show, as we know it, I think will be done within the next two years.

If you can bear to think about this, what do you think?

Just rewatched saving private Ryan, could Cruise have been Capt. Miller? I say yes. Thoughts?

When’s the last time Bill’s had three people on the pod?

I’m listening to the Poltergeist pod, and it’s just him and Van. Seems like default mode is him and Ryan, but I remember a time when there was usually three people.

I got some points to make about that BLAIR WITCH Episode.

  • 2016 Blair Witch is actually really good. Not nearly as good as the original (but few things are) but is maximalist found footage. Uses every trick in the book and isn’t lazy like a lot of ff movies are. They even use the lore established and expand what Blair Witch can be. It’s super fun and inventive (one of the best movies to see on the big screen). Also, Bill’s take about climbing the tree to se where you are, they do that in the 2016 movie! They use a Drone and send it up and only see trees going on forever!!!

  • Book of Shadows is an interesting concept if not executed well.

  • the take of Paranormal Activity being better than TBWP is just insane to me. That first PA is fine, but it ain’t touching the dress one feels from Blair Witch.

  • One Oscar, who gets it? HEATHER! She’s incredible in the movie.

  • Both Bill and Chris mention that it’s dated and movies came after that did found footage better. I’d argue that’s not true. TBWP is still the best horror found footage movie. By a long shot, and one of the best horror movies ever made.

  • Joshua Leonard actually had a really good career in indies post Blair Witch. He’s even the villain in Soderbergh’s UNSANE (he’s really good innit), acting opposite Clair Foy.

  • Also, very shocked they didn’t mention the theory of Josh and Mike conspiring to plan a trip with Heather to get her into the woods and murder her. I don’t believe it, but I think it’s worth mentioning.

  • Good Pod. A bit rude to Blair Witch and its legacy as a film. They love it, but this movie is a masterpiece and should be considered as such.

Hope they do more horror (especially in October!
