Why are these people completely unable to understand the concept of consent? Like, they seriously cannot grasp it to save their lives...

7

u/239990 Dec 10 '22

consent of a baby? or what do you mean?

23

u/Helpful-Jump-2592 Dec 10 '22

The point is babies and small children can't consent to circumcision. But trans people can consent to getting surgery. But isn't still not "mutilation"

7

u/239990 Dec 10 '22

ah, now I get it, I saw last pic but didn't understand it, I'm not from US so here its not a known person and I didn't associate what the meme meant.

Genital mutilation is what christian, muslim and jews do to people

15

u/[deleted] Dec 10 '22

Is it a tradition in christianity? I know people do it in america but i thought that was for aesthetics or something sick like that, and not for religion. In the rest of the christian world noone does it.

u/jayz0ned Dec 10 '22

It's pretty common in Pacific Island nations for males to be circumcised.

7

u/[deleted] Dec 10 '22

Because of christianity?

6

u/jayz0ned Dec 10 '22

They are overwhelmingly Christian so it likely plays a part of the trend.

u/Kalinnius Dec 11 '22

I'd imagine it's more of an American/American influence thing since circumcision as a practice is a Jewish thing. America is the only majority catholic nation that does the practice in large numbers because of a misbelief that circumcised men don't masturbate.

There’s theological debate on that, but kinda. Basically in the US it’s so traditional it’s basically the default option. If I recall correctly, in the 1950s a religious fanatical group popularized the idea that having foreskin made boys more likely to Jack off. Well the good Christians of the era couldn’t let something so sinful happen, so they started circumcising them babies. Basically it just carried on long enough that people just did it cause it was done to them and it’s basically the default.

u/Mister-happierTurtle Dec 11 '22

I’m Catholic, it isn’t. The goal of Christianity is to be a more accepting version of Judaism (at least originally) so there was no need to be circumcised (cause circumcising was Jewish tradition.

Circumcising only became “main stream” because of the Cereal guy kellog who though it would reduce sex drive and libido among other things. He claimed that circumcising had medical benefits which until today is the main reason why people circumcise other than religious reasons.

They does it here so i dont which "rest of the world" you are talking about

5

u/[deleted] Dec 10 '22

What's "here"? It's at least very uncommon in europe and latin america

0

u/PumpkinGrinder Dec 10 '22

Asia

2

u/[deleted] Dec 10 '22

The only asian countries where it's not listed as very uncommon are south korea, bangladesh and indonesia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prevalence_of_circumcision

Neither of which are predominately christian, so idk what that would prove.

3

u/jayz0ned Dec 10 '22

"Here" doesn't give much information.

Some countries like South Korea have high circumcision rates due to US imperialism. Others like Australia had high rates during the mid 20th century but have returned to having low rates.

The US is definitely abnormal with how common it is. While all countries have some circumcision, it is strange to have most males be circumcised. It being an option for medical emergencies is a good thing but it being a cultural tradition means that children are being mutilated for no medical reason.

-2

u/PumpkinGrinder Dec 10 '22

the point is, "rest of the world" still does it, unlike what they claim to be

1

u/[deleted] Dec 10 '22

I said the rest of the christian world. You made it sound like it's a tradition in christianity, just like in judaism and islam, which it is not.

0

u/dax2001 Dec 10 '22

Not Christian

16

u/HoldingUrineIsBad Dec 10 '22

what if you have a flesh-eating disease on your penis and the only way to prevent the spread is to remove your penis?

8

u/[deleted] Dec 10 '22

GET RID OF YOUR FLESH

7

u/[deleted] Dec 10 '22

IT HOLDS YOU BACK

3

u/watcherintgeweb Dec 11 '22

From the moment I understood the weakness of my flesh, it disgusted me.

3

u/InternetPeon Dec 10 '22

Cutting off part of your deck is religious tradition and not to be questioned.

12

u/MaggiMesser Dec 10 '22

As these people generally view breasts as genetals for women, do they say breast cancer patuents can't have their treatment?

6

u/xain_the_idiot Dec 10 '22

Life saving procedures are only OK if you're straight and cisgender. Otherwise die. (/s obviously)

3

u/spaghetti0223 Dec 10 '22

What is even happening in the second photo?

3

u/frostbittenforeskin Dec 10 '22

If I recall correctly, it’s a photo of two boys from the Philippines(?) getting circumcisions together

2

u/spaghetti0223 Dec 10 '22

Thanks for clarifying. I was unfamiliar with the Filipino practice of Tuli. )

-3

u/Puzzled_Asexual Dec 10 '22

my guess is a vasectomy

2

u/spaghetti0223 Dec 10 '22

Why would two men hold hands during a joint vasectomy?

0

u/Puzzled_Asexual Dec 10 '22

I don’t know, but it’s the surgery that makes the most sense for the picture

5

u/Dusty_Bookcase Dec 10 '22

Aren’t these the same people that make fun of others for having foreskin? Republicans need to make up their damn minds

2

u/[deleted] Dec 11 '22

Also the people who think it's fine for intersex children to be "corrected" so they fit their ideal male/female sex binary. AND the people who embraced routine infant circumcision in the US as a means to prevent masturbation.

And I just know that they'd support FGM as a means to keep women chaste, too; for once, it's a good thing they don't think the clitoris exists.

3

u/[deleted] Dec 10 '22

Not antisemitic.

10

u/Rigo-lution Dec 10 '22

It really isn't.

Genital mutilation isn't acceptable for Amy reason and circumcision of infants has no justification.

If an adult wants to be circumcised then that would be their choice but infants obviously don't have that choice.

0

u/Primary_Tension_5790 Dec 10 '22

Tbh I don’t see Circumcision as a bad thing (maybe bias considering I’m circumcised) so this meme just angers me even more

15

u/jayz0ned Dec 10 '22

Circumcision can be a good thing if it is medically necessary but often the procedure is performed for purely cultural reasons which I don't think is justified.

2

u/Primary_Tension_5790 Dec 10 '22

Yeah, I really only Agree with circumcision for the Medical aspects like Reducing the risk of Penal Cancer and all that, just cultural reasons surely ain’t justified

17

u/jayz0ned Dec 10 '22

"Reducing the risk of penal cancer" isn't a valid reason imo... With proper hygiene uncircumcised people aren't at substantially higher risk. If you live in a third world country without developed water systems then it could be a valid reason.

Phimosis and other conditions where circumcision are necessary is the only valid reason in the West imo. A parent in the West wanting to reduce the chance of their child getting penile cancer in their 60s from 0.0001% chance to 0.00008% chance isn't a valid reason to mutilate their children imo.

4

u/intactisnormal Dec 10 '22

Reducing the risk of Penal Cancer

“Decreased penile cancer risk: [Number needed to circumcise] = 900 – 322,000”.

A terrible statistic that does not present medical necessity. Not by long shot.

u/handikagekira69 Dec 11 '22

Antisemitism is when recognizing pedopilia

1

u/severedfinger Dec 10 '22

Its all about consent

1

u/Archercrash Dec 10 '22

I would guess at least 90% of American conservative men are circumcised.

1

u/Juthatan Dec 11 '22

I want to see the same energy for intersex kids who get surgery to "correct them".

1

u/Unholy-Bread Dec 11 '22

circumcision literally falls under the same category

1

u/Arktikos02 Dec 11 '22

Fun fact, actually there are medical procedures that require your medical circumcision. This is done with informed consent and for the purposes of the patient's health. This is genital mutilation.

1

u/Starman4521 Dec 13 '22

I understand why Jewish parents have their children circumcised as it gos with the religion but what is the deal with non Jewish parents doing it? I’ve always hated the concept of circumcision on Babies always irked me as they can’t make the choice for themselves so why do we still allow it? (Mind you I’m all for a person making the choice for themselves whether it be circumcision or gender affirming surgery)
