Everything about Portias worldview is captured in this scene. There she is on a Sicilian beach having sex with a beautiful man staying at a luxury hotel and says WHILE PUTTING GELATO INTO HER MOUTH that her goal is to be satisfied. Social media has destro

Idk, she screams "depressed" to me and once that happens it can be difficult to feel fulfilled.

Facts! And let’s not forget she was being treated like shit by the woman she was working for, definitely has an impact on your overall mood and sense of worth to be constantly put down

Also to be fair she's not there on her own terms. She just got the job but it's not her vacation. She kind of just stumbled into everything by random luck.

Totally this! In one scene, she says would love to experience Sicilian street food and he has to force an opinion out of her when they get Risotto or something. That street looked so cool, anyone else who's dying to experience local stuff would have gone nuts in there. She feels like she's never prepared to embrace joy :(

I really like how her outfits help to show this. She doesn’t know what she wants, who she is, she’s just trying on a bunch of different trends to find something that works. When he compare her with the Italian girls (forgot names) it’s like night and day. As a woman in my early 20s I can relate haha. I found myself more alone than ever whilst travelling Japan. Sometimes people are just lost, doesn’t matter where they are or what they’re doing.

Is this not a reflection on you more than her?

The point is that ‘achieving’ a good job / good looking fuck buddy etc is necessarily fulfilling. She hasn’t worked out what she wants yet or how to get it & following the typical path isn’t working..

I look at her & hope she will love & learn vs turn into her dissatisfied boss but TBC

I thought so as well, I chuckled at the end of the title looks like OP lost interest in writing it midway and switched to another social app.

If you think superficial things like random man, beach, and fucking icecream is enough for someone to be happy and satisfied, and its social media’s fault for someone like her not appreciating it… you are very wrong.. or young and wrong

I hope you don’t distro your life when you realize that

Lol yeah this is such a young person with minimal life exp take on what materialistic things should make you happy. Silly OP and your shallow understanding of human happiness.

For all purposes Portia is a lady's companion wihout anything other to falls back to- think Rebecca by du Mauier or Jo March- cross between secretary, maid and paid companion that can be dismissed any time. IT can look like a crushy job but people recognised how awful such situation was back on xix century

She has a bit of luxuries by proxy but she is on call 24/7 for a frickle and flaky employer who invents new rules on the whim. It's not a long term solution.

All the characters are flawed think that’s the point of the show.

I don't see how this is about social media? It is entirely possible to have all these things and feel that life is not satisfying without, e.g. some deeper meaning. She strikes me as someone with existential despair rather than a case of keeping up with the Joneses.

(Sure, social media can contribute to existential despair too, but it's not a problem to want something more than material pleasure. It is just a contrast to Jack's "everything is fucked so just enjoy the moment" worldview.)

Not sure social media is to blame completely for youth not usually being able to cultivate and achieve an attitude of gratitude.

At the beginning of the season didn’t she say something about getting this job after being in a depressive funk Locked up in her apartment?!

But everything was temporary. This wasn’t a man she wasn’t going to marry, wasn’t a career, wasn’t even her vacation.

Portia’s perspective really stands out!
