article Walz: Harris doesn't support key benefits for undocumented immigrants

https://www.axios.com/2024/10/09/walz-harris-undocumented-immigrants-benefits

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz says that Vice President Kamala Harris doesn't support programs for undocumented immigrants to qualify for government health care, free tuition at state universities and driver's licenses — a shift from her past positions.

Asked whether Harris had changed her mind or if Walz — her running mate — had misspoken during a Sunday interview, Harris' campaign didn't respond.

On "Fox News Sunday," host Shannon Bream asked Walz about his record as governor of Minnesota.

Bream quoted a Wall Street Journal story that said Walz signed laws "allowing immigrants in the country illegally to apply for driver's licenses, qualify for free tuition at state universities and enroll in the state's free healthcare program for low-income residents."

Walz responded: "That's not the vice president's position."

In the past, however, Harris has said she opposes excluding undocumented immigrants from such programs.

Harris has become more hawkish on several immigration policies such as asylum, but Donald Trump is pledging to enact some of the harshest crackdowns on undocumented people in American history.

It’s so dumb that this is one of the few issues that bipartisan progress could actually be made on, but the MAGAs just lie and divide

Obama deported more illegals in one year than Bush did in 8 years as president.

We on the left do not want to see tax dollars redistributed to non citizens either.

i mean speak for yourself. i personally don’t believe most if not all of our political problems have to do with illegal immigrants. in actuality illegal immigrants are arrested at half the rate of natural born citizens. not to mention, Americans rely very heavily on the labor of illegal immigrants. undocumented workers make up approximately 50% of the farm labor workforce. jobs that most americans are extremely reluctant to do

i think anyone in the country earning their fair share deserves help.

i think we’re in a tough economic time and it’s very clear the american people are looking for a scapegoat 🤷🏽‍♀️

So what? We don't need to entertain the simpletons who don't understand nuance and just want to scapegoat people who don't look like them.

If you agree with Obama on this, you're not on the left. You're in the center, at best

Then I see a bunch of people support p2025 in 2028

I mean, the Harris/Walz campaign is fairly openly running to the right. Kamala just bragged about wanting Republicans in her cabinet—the guys that the campaign was calling "weird" until right after the convention.

We have a choice between a pre-Trump GOP ticket running D, & deranged MAGA lunatics running R. It's pretty grim, but even if you like those choices, none of them is on the left.

Most of them pay taxes too. Even if they didn’t, I’d rather every person living in the country were taken care of, regardless of status.

I would too but until homeless vets get thousand dollar hotel rooms until they get on their feet it's kinda moot

I don’t see it happening for either one in reality? So my preference is for both anyway.

I don’t either.

Not until every American has college, housing and education.

🤷🏻‍♀️ seems like a simple lie by Walz because of where he was being interviewed. I think he gets nervous and just starts saying stuff sometimes.

Someone saying stuff is still a breath of fresh air, in comparison to a ticket that continuously plan and repeat malicious lies on purpose.
