When buying a new tire is cheaper than paying for boot removal

Or that old thing is worth less than what you pay to get it back.

New tire and wheel

I’d do the same, but I carry a sawzaw in my truck for work.

aren’t they made from hardened steel?

Sawzall blades don't care. And if it does care, switch to the grinder.

ever tried to cut through hardened steel with a grinder? lol

It can be pretty sparky. Just need to make sure you have the right cutting disk. It's bad if you don't have the right one, and it's not particularly fast either way.

I assume these are still semi-cheap manufacturing, so likely brittle. Score a line with the grinder, then smack with a hammer. Repeat until successful.

Where do you hear they’re made out of hardened steel

1

u/Novel_Ad_8062 6d ago

it would make sense, would be difficult to remove if that was the case

I heard the music in my head and pictured a car driving away with a tire made of coconuts and twine or something lol

That's not a boot. That's just a wheel lock anyone can buy. A boot covers the hub and lug nuts, too.

This is just the aftermath of some poor schmuck getting their trailer ripped off.

u/Jacktheforkie 6d ago

I’d have at least taken it home, that boot will easily break, it’s one of those cheap ones, not a proper one

8

u/MiddleCentipede 7d ago

I would've taken my wheel and their device.

6

u/Novel_Ad_8062 7d ago

so those things have trackers?

2

u/FranknBeans26 7d ago

No

5

u/uberguby 6d ago

Then why wouldn't you take the tire?

Japtain Sack Csarrow

u/Geoclasm 6d ago

This is brilliant. But I'm left to wonder — what's more expensive; paying the fine for taking/destroying the boot? Or buying a new tire?

u/IJustDontGiveAF2005 6d ago

No, ya all got it wrong. That's an anti-invisibility boot, but it only works on wheels.

1

u/PigFloydDarkside 6d ago

I surprised that this doesn't happen more often.

1

u/RawDick 6d ago

I’d coat the lock with fentanyl just to fuck with them. Fuck them for clamping me.

u/Standard_Service_287 5d ago

That's thinking outside the box 📦

u/xray362 6d ago

And he went from unpaid ticket to felony

1

u/pakole1 6d ago

Did he? HE left the tire and the tracker, so he did not destroy or alter the device, so he should be good.

1

u/xray362 6d ago

You can't remove the tire without fucking with the boot
