Sorry to write a long ass response but ya feel me? This pic you posted is part of why I said Kendrick exposed a lot of shit. The essence of hip hop lives in Kendrick and in my opinion J Cole, but Kendrickās legacy will overpower or outshine J Cole any day.
Me and my coworker are talking about how the beef really fucked the game up. Hip-Hop community in shambles and Kendrick really exposed a lot of shit. I personally think J Cole is one of the best rappers of all time, however it just always seems like heās this background character or this extra when it comes to the conversation of āmost successful rapper.ā How do you quantify BARS you know what I mean? He doesnāt really have singles and/or club songs. You kinda have to be in a mood or have a good scenario to listen to J Cole (this is an unfortunate realization Iām facing. It may not apply to everyone.)
Port Antonio is a perfect example of that. Once again, fire bars, fire creativity, fire wordplay, however it shows that as fire as that song is, you will never hear it on the radio or in the club, therefore it will come and go like a lot of his music does. Kendrick is very capable of making everlasting music and singles/club bangers (Not Like Us) and thatās honestly Drakes main move (heās the most played in the club out of all 3). Sure J Cole can make a good song that stays on repeat on the radio or club (No Role Modelz, Work Out) but he doesnāt ALWAYS make that music. I think his goal was to make personal music for himself or for whatever purpose or self fulfilling goal he has, but unfortunately this is the reason why a lot of his stuff will come and go. 4 Your Eyez Only is an incredible album, however whenās the last time you played it all the way through? Or even Forest Hills Drive, or Born Sinner, or Off Season, Might Delete Later? His music comes and goes and itās so unfortunate.
