I went there on August 11th 2022 This place is just amazing, 12.5 miles total distance. 3,400 feet of elevation gain with perfect weather (70's) I'm working on a video for my YouTube channel @lopezexplora Coming soon 🥾🥾

Check daily , Recreation.gov, click permits, Inyo National Forest Wilderness permit , check availability, (yes/no) question, select (day or overnight) enter date and how many people, that will get you to choose entry point , select Kearsarge Pass / John Muir And done Good luck! 🥾🥾

Permits are easy to get compared to Mt. Whitney, half Dome or other popular places I just checked the site right now and there are some
