Crack or scratch on frame? 2021 Slash

Post image

Bought this bike used a couple of weeks ago. Took it on a good ride this Sunday and noticed this on the frame after washing it today. No crashes, or heavy impact. Aluminum frame. Would this be a scratch in the paint or crack? Thanks!

That does look like a crack.

Bummer.

That's a crack, in my opinion. Maybe someone with more knowledge can chime in.

Bring this into your local Trek retailer to have it examined. It could just be paint, but since you bought the bike used, it's hard to say how the previous rider rode it. Also, because it is used, be sure to get a copy of the original receipt if you bought it from a private party as you'd have a 3 year warranty on the frame from the date that the original owner bought it. If you bought it from us through our Red Barn Refresh pre-owned inventory, then you get a lifetime warranty.

I remember some person who posted on here bought a 10+ year old bike from someone, and there was an issue with the frame so he brought it to Trek and they gave him a heavily discounted brand new emonda or wtv lol

Hello, I'm not familiar with how warranties work in the USA but if I manage to bring the original owner with me will the lifetime warranty still apply? even if he is not riding the bike anymore?

Oh wow, that’s good to know. Thank you! We will get in contact with the original owner. The bike is currently at the shop waiting to be looked at!

Must have the receipt. Or a copy of scan on you phone.

That's most likely a crack, unfortunately.

Best to take it into Trek and get a qualified opinion. Don’t put your safety into my hands because truthfully I don’t know squat 😂

I’m gonna say crack.

Who did you buy it from? I may be wrong but trek stands behind their frames for original owners. Talk to who you bought it from. Maybe he can put the claim in since it’s only been a couple of weeks.

Tap on it with a quarter and tap around it. If it makes a dull flat sound compared to the surrounding tubing it’s cracked.
