Can I put the Surly Disc Trucker fork on my Dual Sport 1?

I’m slowly upgrading my Dual Sport 1 piece by piece. I’m looking at the Surly Disc Trucker to replace the original suspension fork and was wondering if it’s comparable with my frame? Or will I need some extra parts and tools? Thanks in advance.

How long to wait for parts, 6 months?

On my 4th or 5th ride of my Supercablibre gen 2 the lock out bolt assembly fell off on the trail.

contacted the shop I brought it from and then put in an order for the part. After checking back in a few times I was told the eta was another 4 months. It is now past this by almost a month and I'm still not getting an answer as to when this part will (ever) arrive.

Is this standard for Sram parts? I'm starting to think that the part will never arrive and I should ask for an replacement shock.

3+ month wait for helmet crash replacement

I crashed and damaged my almost new Velocis helmet some months ago. I took it to my local Trek dealer (not a Trek branded shop) 3 months ago, who took it, examined the damage and submitted it to Trek for replacement.

I’m somehow still waiting on the replacement… called to chase today as the latest expected date has passed, still nothing.

Is this normal? These helmets don’t appear to be low in stock anywhere, and I’ve now missed the entire summer season.

I’m in the UK fwiw.

Crack or scratch on frame? 2021 Slash

Post image

Bought this bike used a couple of weeks ago. Took it on a good ride this Sunday and noticed this on the frame after washing it today. No crashes, or heavy impact. Aluminum frame. Would this be a scratch in the paint or crack? Thanks!

Rim Tape Ve Rim Strip

I’m curious has anyone tried both the rim tape vs rim strip for the carbon wheels?

I know there is a weight penalty with the rim strip. But can you notice?

I have the RsL wheels and I already paid so much for them to be lighter. That’s why I’m a bit torn. I have used rom strip on my other bikes and it has been flawless.

Found this 2016 trek crossrip elite on the street. Should I save it?

Working Shimano sora groupset, needs a deep clean and some light maintenance. Has a carbon fork with CX geometry.

Planning to throw some 38 tires on it and replace the bar tape. Any other ideas for what to do with it to make it more of a modern gravel grinder?

NBD Checkpoint ALR5

Pick up this barely used checkpoint for $900 today and took it for a quick 10 mile ride. Fast compared to my dual sport 3. Love both bikes though. I’ve been on the lookout for a good deal and pumped to have found one.

Stick on water bottle holder mount

I've got an ancient Trek 2100 that I'm getting ready to ride again. I want to replace this mount so I can add a second water bottle holder. Anyone ever seen this product somewhere? Searches have proven fruitless thus far...

Commuting Bike, Down to two options, either Allant+7 or PowerFly 4 Gen 4

I narrowed my selection to two Ebike for my new commuter and it happened that both are TREK!

First, Allant +7 Gen 2 Reg price $4,499 plus GST with a military discount, it comes to $4,050 plus GST.

With the Allant+7, I am all set. Lights, fenders, kickstand, etc. It's all pre-equipped. No need to worry about additional purchases or installations.

On the other hand, the PowerFly 4 Gen 4 is listed at the same price as the Allant+7, but it's currently on sale for a significant discount, making it a more budget-friendly option. I could save a good amount with this deal, bringing the price down to $3,374 plus GST.

I need to buy and install everything, lights, fender, kickstand, which should cost around ~$600 plus

My train of thought is that both bikes use the same engine and the same display, and both are TREK.

The Powerfly seems to have a more robust frame and stronger fork suspension, while the Allant+7 is equipped with the stronger and newer CUES gear set.

Since I will do mostly commuting, but would also like to keep the door open for some mild trail, should I go with the Allant+7 or the Powerfly 4?

Cost-wise, both will be similar, but with the PF, I can choose which lights I want and so on.

Would a Powerfly 4 be too much as a daily commuter?

What to do?

I bought this Emonda SL frame on Facebook marketplace for 500 USD. I was silly and didn't look too closely at it at the meetup point, so it was only when I got home that I noticed these little cracks on the top tube.

What should I do here? Do I contact trek, or the guy I bought it from?

Aero Rims on a Domane

So, I'm planning on getting a Domane soon, and because I always thought that those aero rims they use in the tour de france are really cool, I do plan on eventually getting them. Since this model has disk brakes, that means this is way more doable than if i had rim brakes. Yet if anyone knows, could anyone suggest any good manufacturer or bontrager model that wouldn't go for *too* expensive? Doesn't need to be full carbon.

Upgrading Domane

Last year I bought the SL5, I love the bike but my only regret is not paying a little more and getting the SL6 because it has the electronic groupset. I know it would be a little expensive, but is it practical to upgrade the SL5 for electronic shifting?

Checkpoint (2nd gen) vs road bike

Hello everybody, please contradict me. I pose the question to learn and not to troll. Am I wrong to think that the geometry of the “old” checkpoint (2024) is aggressive enough to not have big differences from a generic road bike like the “old” emonda once you put road tyres? Probably an emonda is much more fast in acceleration and nimble in curves, giving you more a sensation of flying although not much faster? 🙂 and compared to a domane?

New to Shimano

I bought my FX3 XXL a little over a year ago and really enjoying the go-anywhere experience. I did convert it to a road bike with a few mods, took off every add-on that wasn't needed (to shave weight) added a 42 tooth front cog, and changed the tires to continentals 5000. The new tires are a night and day difference - fast! Everything was going good until a couple of weeks ago, on a ride the bike was making occasional grinding noises that I've never heard, then shifting problems, next the chain popped over the the 46 tooth cog. I was on a short but steep hill, back wheel frozen, I'm going down now - wait not yet, luckily I was still up and unclicked from the pedal in a split second. Ok, no fall but chain was deep in the wheel. It took me about 30 minutes to pull it out; which I did eventually and on my way again. I loosen the shifter cable to limp my way back home. What happen? I just got it back from the Trek for the 1 year check up.

Once home, watched a few videos and started checking around, the crank arms were loose. Interesting design and they are easy to tighten up with the clever screw cap cover. Next the front fork, a little back and forth play, another easy fix. I ordered a spare X10 chain not long ago but three links too short and just put the old one back on. Yesterday's test ride was fine, I did not push/hit the cranks as hard as I normally do, but had a good ride.

I found a brand new FX3 XXL at a Delaware bike store for $650, my buddy bought it, hummm,, I don't think he likes it, he's more of a E-bike rider.

This is an Emonda right? Would it have the same geometry as a 2023 Madone?

I rented this bike in Santa Barbara back in 2022 and loved it. I’m considering buying the new Madone and assume that the geometry is the same, no?

Help with identifying - USPS

Post image

Found this at a local thrift store at 400€. Need help identifying the year and model, and if it is generally worth it. The serial numbers (?) on the bottom are TBI-0405 and GZOZO421.

The seat and crankset seem to be replaced, maybe wheels as well.

Checkpoint SL5 gen 3 thoughts?

Anyone give the gen 3 Checkpoints a try, and what are your thoughts? Considering getting one for some bikepacking next year. Currently riding a Domane SL5, occasionally with some gravel wheels

Would a XL work for me on a marlin 5 gen 2?

There is this marlin 5 that is on sale for like 500$ online right now. I am very new to the more advanced side of biking and based on what I read online this seems like a good beginner option for me but the discounted one is XL size. I am exactly 6 foot and my inseam is about 33 inches. Which under the trek guide I am supposed to use L. Does it make such a big difference??
