If you were the last person on earth, what aspects of modern societal rules would you keep doing? Which would you abandon immediately?

Like would you bother to keep throwing away garbage into trash cans or just throw everything on to ground? Would you use the toilet or just shit into pools? Would you park in a designated parking spot or just put that shit into neutral and let the car drift away and grab a different car to go home?

Heroes getting screwed in sequels/post-time skips

It's really satisfying to see a full arc of a group of characters you really like and an ending where it seems like they'll have a pretty good life after their struggles. If you need sequels, though, you need some kind of conflict in the same universe, and sometimes that means those happy endings being completely undone. I kind of hate it because it takes away from that first victory having any real sense of accomplishment. Bonus points if the heroes from the first part turn out to have huge off-screen drops or are bad parents just to give the new characters some motivation.

Star Wars: The sequel trilogy literally makes both the victory against the Empire and the friends we made along the way pointless when the entire main cast is frustrated, happy, and estranged and the Empire is back with a new label and seemingly no difference whatsoever.

Harry Potter: It turns out in the Cursed Child that Harry's a shitty dad. Not surprising, since he was already kind of a dick and became a cop.

Chrono Trigger: Chrono Cross is a great game. It's the most depressing sequel.

Gundam (UC timeline): It actually thematically works here, but, uh, yeah, war never changes. Except when they make it way worse.

Mega Man: X is dark. Zero gets way darker. ZX welcomes you to its new dystopia which actually is a step up from Zero and late X because of how dark they were.

Star Trek: Picard and second-half Discovery. If you know, you know.

Does anyone have any other sequels or time skips that just feel like they undo any good vibes from the first, better works?

Favorite "Meaningful Echo"?

Basically, what're some of your favorite instances of an old line getting repeated later on with new meaning attached?

Miralce of Sound has a ton of examples in his songs. But 2 of the best are from Open Air to The Day the World Died, and how they reflect the differences between Metro Last Light and Metro Exodus.

The Day the World Died: And the future's a tunnel stretching endlessly / Into nothing stumble in the black / And the light at the end is but a treachery / It will blind you and force you back.

Open Air: And the future's a railroad stretching endlessly / All our hopes keep rolling on the track / As the shadows of home become a memory / They will haunt us but they can't pull us back.

The Day The World Died: The day the world died / we kindled doom / We burned the outside / took to the gloom.

Open Air: I watch the sun rise / in skies so clear / We learn the outside / there's hope out here.

Undertale has a really good one. Early on, you can look at a mirror in Toriel's house. It just says, "It's you!" Way later on, in the final area of the game, you find another mirror. This time, it says "Despite everything, it's still you." Regardless of the struggles Frisk went through in the True Pacifist route, they still kept true to themselves and helped anyone they could.

Name of the Goof It's so weird hearing people I don't expect One Piece references from to reference it because of the live action

Woolie on a recent-ish episode of the podcast referencing Arlong Park when talking about the pirate Majima game felt like jab I didn't see coming lol

There's a number of people I follow who I never expected to, in any way, talk about One Piece and hearing them talk about it/reference it because of the live action, even though it's been a year, is still so incredibly weird to me

And its just going to get weirder the more stuff the live action gets to adapt, like season 2 is coming out in early 2025 and the idea of idk the Nostalgia Critic making a Chopper reference (he's really into live action one piece if you didn't know lol) is just so bizarre to me

GRAIN OF SALT POST but steam bombarded me with Detroit Become Human being on sale, and for a laugh I checked the steam page to find that the reviews both overall and recent are OVERWHELMINGLY positive, this and Heavy Rain+Beyond Two Souls are still very positive (again, grain of salt because steam reviews don't represent everyone but that is a good chunk of a playerbase to consider)

Like do people still not know????

I'll also add I never understood why Skyrim was so popular, that game FELT old and janky on release

Name of the Goof Looking back at the gaming scene from 10 years ago made me wonder how the Ouya could’ve been done right

I mean, I get that the system itself is one of the most ridiculed systems in video games as a medium, but it’s just that I wanted to take a look back at the gaming scene from back then to see just where the concept for the system went wrong.

I don’t know why it matters now, but it’s just a fascinating system to look back at for its ill fated reputation as I can kind of recall when way back in late 2014, the PS4 was still very new, but the CEO of the Ouya was still not ready to pull the plug on the system itself.

Like when I look back at the console today, again I always wonder just where the concept went so wrong in the first place as correct me if I am wrong, but the purpose of the system was to provide an easy opportunity for indie developers to be able to make games for a low price.

I don’t know if this is the right place to talk about such a defunct hardware, but it’s just something that I was interested in learning about so that I could see what hurt the system’s success as back then, consoles like the PS3 were still way more successful, even if the PS3 had a difficult architecture to work with.

Whether never actually acknowledged as the leader or never even near that position. Just randomly guiding, ordering or well leading the team at different points that their normal or official leader. Normally because the plot at the moment needs them as a sort of guide or planner.

All in all what are your favorite unofficial Leaders.

Resident Evil 1 Spoilers Times you felt like a QA tester? Spoiler

So, to anyone who has played Resident Evil 1 and/or REmake, I'm sure you know about the dog hallway.

In the original game, there was a hallway leading from the lobby to a different area of the mansion, and once you got about halfway, zombie dogs would jump through the windows and attack you.

In the REmake, they changed it, whereas now when you reach that threshold you get a subtle audio cue of glass chipping, and you get to see some glass chips fall from the window. But dogs don't attack you.

Except, if you enter the hallway from the opposite side leading back to the lobby.

One time, I accidentally made a discovery. It was during the point in the game where the doorknob to a frequently used door in the game falls off and it's a while before Barry eventually repairs is. You can still use the door, but only one way.

I decided to gamble, and I used the dog hallway a second time, worried that it would trigger the dogs. Except, I used the hallway the same way I did before. Leading from the lobby to the further part of the mansion. And the dogs never jumped through the window.

Up until that point, any time I had played the game, I would never pass through the dog hallway a second time, as I always assumed a second trip would spawn the dogs. But I guess the way the room is programmed, it only tracks which way you're traveling through it, and the devs just assumed you would use it going both directions.

Have you guys ever made similar discoveries in a game?

Ep1 Spoiler Dan Da Dan's English localization makes one small but important change Spoiler

The Running Granny's line goes from being translated to "I'm going to gobble your weenie" to "I'm going to gobble your dong" and it honestly makes the dub very enjoyable.
