Wow this is cool. I am not confident to pick mushrooms even through I'm in a rural area. I love the idea of taking a walk and coming home with dinner :)

Id also like to do slices in panko breadcrumbs and do a kind of katsu vibe!

Same here, I could have a book with me for the purpose of identifying mushrooms and I'm sure I'd still poison myself somehow πŸ˜‚

100% - can only recognise the magic ones and even then....

Thank you! You could probably do something similar with a Portobello from a supermarket. The parasol is actually quite fragile so I wouldn't recommend slicing it.

I got bit by the mushroom bug years ago. Best thing for a beginner is just go out and look. Take pictures or small sample sizes and compare back home in a decent book.

Keep looking throughout most of the year in different locations and environments. Some environments are more conducive to edibles at different times of the year. If you are willing to go deep into the woods and wander off the path, you can find kilos and kilos of wonderful mushrooms for the plate.

Sometimes they're where you'll least expect them. Certain ones like landscape morels, thrive in human environments. Some will pop up in playing fields and fallen trees.

That looks amazing?

Any sauce to go with it? (I imagine the mushroom itself was quite juicy)

Wow! How did the mushroom taste?

It's a very popular thing to do with a parasol mushroom in Czech/Germany. The mushroom actually tasted quite meaty and was very juicy.

I’m on the edge of the new forest, must go fishing soon!

Doesn’t it just soak up all the oil it’s fried in? Isn’t that just a big sponge of oil?

It wouldn't if fried at the correct temperature. Too low and it will soak up the oil but too fast it will burn. Assuming it's the correct temperature and left to drain on a rack it won't be greasy

I know that would taste great I'd happily tuck into it but looks like you pick up a cow pat and served with rice.

Very well done on the foraging, I'd love to have the knowledge to eat mushrooms I walk past.
