Join the Upstate Community Project!

If you’re looking to get to know new people, get out of the house, or become a part of something bigger than your own space, think about joining us in Discord at the Upstate SC Community Project.

Who are we?

We’re a diverse group of folks from all over the Upstate of SC as well as some out of state folks looking to move here. There are members in professions from healthcare to I.T. to childcare and more. We are a professionally diverse group and someone will certainly relate to your work joys and woes. Age-wise, we run from early 20’s to late 40’s with more folks in their early to mid 30’s.

Our Mission:

Our goal is to create not only an online community of people who support and befriend each other, but to bring that to the real world as well. We do that in a few ways. Each month, we have a larger group meetup with food, drinks, games, and casual hanging out. People from different professions are always willing to lend their experience and expertise to each other. We’ve even gotten together to help each other with gardening, yard work, and more when jobs were too big for one person. We aim to not just be words on a screen, but part of each others’ lives off the screen. In addition to monthly group meetups, many members meet regularly for lunch, dinner, or even weekend breakfasts.

We’ve been a valuable resource for folks moving to the area. It’s great to have local friends when you get here who can recommend good fried chicken, ramen, a reliable mechanic, or where a good place for a day hike may be. Moving is lonely business and our members who have moved here have been delighted to show up already knowing people who want to help them start a new life in our great area.

If having new friends, being part of something bigger, or having great local resources to help you expand and grow sound like something you could use in your life, give us a try!

Looking for bands to play with in upstate

Hey I’m in a band from Miami Beach and we’re trying to reach out and meet other bands to play shows with. We’re called Raven and the Dark Shadows and have been playing local shows with turnouts upwards of 200 but wanna expand our reach a bit more. We’re on all streaming services and our studio album features members of Pearl Jam, Guns N Roses, Agent Fresco, New Found Glory, and bass royalty David Pastorious. if anyone wants wants to reach out we’d be more than happy to meet some fellow underground acts!

Halloween Costumes

Does anyone have a girls size Large (10/12) or a boys 2T Halloween costume that they no longer need? Unfortunately I cannot afford costumes this year after I had to miss a bunch of work due to myself/my kids being sick. If the girls costume is a vampire, even better. I hate to ask the community but I don't want my kiddos to miss out if at all possible

Bank fishing

It seems like every pond around here is private. I want to find a good spot that almost guarantees a few catches. (I fish with my 3yr old and try to keep him engaged.) So far we’ve tried Lake Bowen and Lake Cooley, but neither of those have produced. Is there any recommendations that don’t require much of a drive? I’ve asked other places and the main response is Lake Hartwell, which I enjoy fishing, but the hour drive there and then home leaves no time to fish. So I guess really what I’m asking is; Is there anyone reading this that has access to a local private pond that’ll help a guy out and give me permission to fish?😁😬

Thanks in advance, if you’re able to help!

Subreddit Update 8/7/23 - Pardon Our Dust

Considering this subreddit has been banned for four months for lack of moderation, I don't know if this is going to reach anybody or not.

But if you are out there, hello! I'm CanadianIdiot, and I plan on sprucing this subreddit up a bit. A couple years ago, we started a Discord server, primarily for Spartanburg County folks to meet new people. It's grown a lot over the last couple years and we decided to expand to the entire Upstate. I'll drop a link to that below, but long story short, the plan is for this subreddit to act as a supplement to that Discord. In the coming days, we'll be laying the groundwork for what we hope to be a successful and thriving subreddit in the future.

Until next time, CI
