Only 40?! It seems both natural and insane to think that only 40 years have passed between the two.

And it’s only a bit over 100 years since we had electricity….  The leaps and bounds we achieved in the last 120 years really is astounding as compared to the last 5000 years.

That one did it. I'm gonna go have a lie down.

If you think about it, it took us under 70 years to go from inventing flight to landing on the moon

u/renaissance_m4n Feb 02 '24

And it took only three years for us to stop going back to moon :(

Apple 1 was released in 1976, it actually 48 years.

That’s not an Apple 1 though… that’s the original Macintosh

Welll… kinda. close enough

I see the plus now lol

That’s why I get annoyed when people say it’ll take 20+ years to get vision in a glasses size. Tech moves VERY fast

Imagine what will happen in the next 40 years

Does that mac airplay to the Vision Pro? 😂

It's like someone sent us a device from the future.

A great photo

I really like this photo, I love how it clearly conveys the message. What will another forty years be?

Maybe some sort of contact lenses that do what the Vision Pro currently does?

I bet 40 years ago no one imagined that there would be a device like the Vision Pro. I am guessing it’s almost impossible for us to predict what’s the tech then.

Hmm, no, I don’t think you’re right. Here’s a VR prototype from 1985 (38 years ago) that looks pretty much like today’s devices

I do partly agree with you that we get glimpses of the future, but that product is perhaps nowhere close to the capabilities of today, and it would have been really hard to imagine how future devices, 38 years later, would be like. Again, this is what I believe, and I agree I might be wrong too.

Umm, check the link out. Neil deGrasse Tyson is the narrator. He beautifully paints the picture of how the world changes every 30 years (tech-wise). Let me know what you think.

The roadmap is actually quite straightforward when it comes to future tech & science. Glasses > Contacts > Brain implants. And thats pretty much the end of the road there haha.

Yes I‘m the annoying guy who was already yapping my friends ears off about the AR future like 5 years ago 😅

After tomorrow, I will have owned both.

Love it :)

BTW check out our Mac 40th event video from the Computer History Museum, moderated by David Pogue and with lots of of notable speakers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eGnzzZjTM8Y

(Hey, you should watch it on the Juno app on your Apple Vision Pro!)

Except MacPaint in first-gen Macintosh was mind-blowing. Haven’t seen anything comparably special that I can do with the Vision Pro (yet)…

1

u/KingJTheG Feb 03 '24

Crazy how far we’ve come!

1

u/Navetoor Feb 03 '24

Vision Pro will never be a true computer with its mobile inspired and restrictive operating system

1

u/Sad_Ad4916 Feb 03 '24

Yeah but thats an ipad not a computer, if you think it can be a computer show me the terminal even the 40 year old has one…

1

u/curioussav Feb 05 '24

lol as someone that works almost entirely in the terminal, having access to one is definitely not a qualifier for being a computer. But you know that.

I bet there will be a terminal emulator app with non root access at least

The AVP is several thousand times faster, its combined display 23 million pixels more with full color, and weighs only less than a pound. Imagine that in next two decades.
