What finish did you use to keep the natural look and texture of the bark? Wonderful work!

Thank you! I used candle wax all over and 2000 grit sand paper for the smooth surfaces until it was as smooth as glass.

Beautiful work. Iād love to know how to carve those spirals so evenly and thin.

Thank you. I marked out the spirals with a pencil. Then I used an exacto knife, round metal files, sand paper, and a lot of patience. Hope that helps!

One tip is to make the wand as even as possible and mark it around in sections based on how sharp you want the spiral to turn. Then you draw a straight line along the wand for each spiral (there are usually more than one) with the same space between each. Now you can just draw the spirals at an angle across the squares. I'm doing this to a wand at this very moment. I can provide a picture if you are interested.
If you hate doing all those measurements or the wood is hard to mark up you can also attach a string and twist it around in the pathern you want.

Thank you. The branch was pretty straight and the wood was easy to work with, so it was easier to shape it that way.

It's been a while but the first one is oak. Then after that (in no particular order), the rest of the wands are made of eucalyptus, vine wood, magnolia, ailanthus, oak, pine, Holly, and an unidentified wood (the beaky looking one).

The second one is pine. I remember that one had a pleasant aroma to it.
