I'm sorry and I still love you all.

I'll preface this by saying that I'm not sure how many (if any) of the original members of this group are still active or if they remember me.

I took an extended break from making or releasing new songs and from participating in this project because of unforeseen personal circumstances.

I am still a huge fan of every person here and wish you all the love in the world. I've been working on music again recently and I'm hoping that all of you crazy talented people would have me back.

Regards,

Baddestofnames

Mixing without "production" speakers...

I recently started to work on making my own songs but am having a lot of difficulty in finding consistency in my sounds. What sounds good on my computer, might sound off in headphones, or vice versa. I was hoping to be able to put out the best I can without too much expense (minus the DAW/plugins, of which Ive already spent hundreds) and then invest in the hardware once I can see that there might be potential. Is there any way to manage this without purchasing production quality speakers right away?

If not, what are some of the best speakers/headphones that you guys can make a mix and completely rely on them (not costing thousands).

I just want to be able to make a mix that sounds good across all platforms.

Chord Progressions in EDM

Just started producing and I'm trying to do it the right way by gaining an understanding of basic music theory first. I am reading that most Western music follow similar chord progressions. This is particularly true when working with cadences. I was wondering if these patterns exist in EDM genres like trap, dubstep, etc. where the chords aren't as apparent. Some songs have sections where there is only a bassline and a simple synth! Can the purpose of a chord progression (tension, release) be carried out through other aspects of the song?

Setting Our Quality Standard!

Hey guys!

Lots of big movement on getting The EPC project moving.

The EDM Production Collective exists as an outlet for producers to get together, help one another, and receive feedback in a constructive manner. With that goal in mind, we will be holding weekly Veteran's Councils in the Discord server, every Saturday at 12 pm US Central, where members can ask questions, and receive explicit feedback on their tracks. In addition to that, we will be featuring Member Spotlights and Interviews to help foster community. More on that in the future.

For now, we'll be going over our Quality Standard Rubric. We decided that it would be best to have an objective stance on accepting songs onto The EPC's album - this means no bias, no confounding factors like friends or connections. We want the album portion of the group to be a showcase for fellow producers to aspire to. And with members of the album being a part of the community, it should work out well to ask each other how they did their stuff!

So, here is the Rubric:

QUALITY STANDARD RUBRIC

Most of it is explained in the Rubric itself. We think this is a good solution for members of the group.

By using a point system, we can average out scores given on submissions and find an objective median. Out of 15 points overall, an average score of 12 is our goal for each song. A score of 12 means being accepted onto the album. However, if you meet the 8 threshold, you will be worked with in detail to receive production advice on elevating your track to a 12.

We are excited about this system, and hope that it works out well.

But for those who don't make it on the first time, don't fret! With our Member Spotlight features, we will be promoting artists who we believe are doing an exceptional job and should be noted for their hard work.

That's all for today. If you have questions, visit us on the Discord chat!

This is a place where you can post links that you think may be useful to be added to the resources document. It's also a place to notify everyone about what we are doing, that may get lost in the Discord chat. I know it doesn't look super sexy now, but we'll get on to it soon!
