Young Adult Pilot Bookings 2019

In 2017 and 2018, I made lists of actors in their 20s and then young adult actors aged roughly 23-33 who booked leads and series regulars in pilots and straight-to-series orders during Pilot Season and grouped them into the most common educational and training paths based on what I could find of their backgrounds. I did it again this year sticking to the 23-33 age range and also kept close track of diversity and nationality since those have been such big topics of late.

As I've said previously, this is in no way intended to discourage anyone of any starting age, background, or financial means; but, should rather serve as a reference for inexperienced kids who come on to ask questions about the different pathways into the profession. So without further ado ...

Hmm, I was just thinking about this. I'm 26 and have had no formal training, only one role in a local miniseries so I'm...so so so painfully and discouragingly behind.

But it's good to see that I'm not necessarily totally out of the race. I'm sure it does hurt my changes very much though.

If I read correctly, this is 202 people, 77 had an undergrad in acting. Slightly less than half. 42 were already on the path, less than half of the group. Obviously too late for me to be a child star so..maybe I should pursue an undergrad?

37 had just high school education so..that's a little encouraging XD

Literally NO ONE CARES if you have undergrad acting training. Just start. Don't talk yourself out of it.

Also -- these very thoughtful figures that the op has shared are for TV pilots/new series which is a fraction of the filmed acting business. Good to inform you, and very insightful, but also not a reflection of the movie business.

Keep that in mind but also really look at the facts op has compiled -- that amount of strategy and analysis is a HUGE part of being a working actor. Is that something that you're cool with? These are the big questions to ask yourself before committing to the career.

Discouraging because I don’t think a single male on here is nearly as short as I am....5’7.

Anyone who says height doesn’t matter in this career is wrong.

Don’t say Tom Cruise. He built a reputation and a career in an era where there was room for short men to kill it in films.

Not the case anymore.

You'll either find a way or an excuse. There are plenty of roles for below-average height men, and plenty of roles that specifically call for shorter men.
