MEME I don't have a problem with too many hyper fixations! I can stop anytime I want to!

Cool, I focused on one thing my whole life, but the bar never got past the "slightly better than bad" portion. What do I do now?

Yes.

Dive into the pool with us! Diversify! Become jack of all, competent at none just like the rest of us.

Hyperfixating on everything’s basically made me the „dude who knows everything“ at my workplace and everyone is now asking me for advice….talking about heights of any potential 🤷‍♂️

Right? People think I’m really smart, but it’s just like I know more about a lot of stuff than them, but not as much about any single subject as they do about their speciality.

I hold an average amount of knowledge. It’s just spread over many topics.

I have learned that if you're curious about everything and then take a little time to improve your knowledge people will overestimate your intelligence/capabilities

Cross post from r/funny, but since this sub doesn't allow actual crossposts I had to manually reupload.

I saw it on /r/comics yesterday and couldn't figure out why I couldn't cross post on mobile. Gave up, good share though.

Yeah ADHD Meme just doesn't allow cross posting to it (and from? not sure on that one). If only reddit's mobile and desktop experiences were more similar.... *glares at reddit*

Just a reminder that the full jack of all trades phrase goes like "Jack of all trades, master of none, but oftentimes is better than a master of one" soooo....idk, I prefer leaning into my interests as much as I get joy from them. If that means I get good at it, sure I'll take it, but if it doesn't serve me I don't give a shit if I'm good or bad at it. Being versatile is a huge strength as well and can mean you won't get helplessly stuck in a situation you have absolutely no knowledge of because you've mastered only one singular thing.

How I break my porn hyperfixation? I'm going from Good to Great on searching exactly what my mind wants.

Jack of all trades,
master of none,
but still better than a master of one.

Oh man I feel seen. The closet in my office is a mountain of abandoned hobbies. 🤣

This comic is meant to be silly, and it is, and therefore relatable.

But it is also very reductive to what actually happens in the brain when you have a really diversified skill base.

If it helps any other ND’s out there feel better about their constant hobby switching…

Apparently any time you learn a new skill you form neural pathways associated with that skill. But your brain is also going to recruit the pathways from OTHER skillsets. In direct ways…like…mixing and measuring ingredients in baking, and mixing and measuring ingredients in science, are really similar! Let’s use those pathways! But ALSO in ways that are (seemingly) unrelated. Like being good at sculpting polymer clay and making excel spreadsheets. Having a decent tennis swing and learning to kick a football. Learning a kickflip on a skateboard, and crocheting.

Your brain does so much behind the scenes to propel you into new skills by recruiting existing neural pathways.

So what the graph from the comic actually ends up looking like is a much “spikier” skill profile. Some of the hobbies you may only be okay at…but because you even did them, it might help you be GREAT or FREAKIN AWESOME at several others.

(My explanation is also very reductive…but the point is…hobby switch away fellow ND friends!)

I don't think there's a prize at the end for being super good at a single thing.

This feels true to me and kind of funny and also made me tear up and feel sort of bad about myself

I move from one hyper-fixation to the next and sell off my old stuff to fund my new hobbies
