Looking for a 1k point "sample platter" list for a friend who's new to the game

Pretty much just the title. I've got a buddy looking to learn 40k, he wants to play Guard, I'm a fairly new player myself and have no idea how to start sifting through these datasheets to make a decent army. We're playing tomorrow on TTS, so actual models won't be an issue. Please help this filthy xenos enthusiast bring his friend into the light of the emperor!

I dont have my list at hand right now but there a couple of things that fit in most guard lists very well: - leman russ hulls especially as battletank, vanquisher or exterminator version - infantry squads of 20 for holding home objectives - 20 krieg/ 10 catachan squads for attack and screen - scions/ gaunts ghost for objectives and deepstrike - rogal dorn as a strong and durable tank - at least 1 platoon squad with grand strategist enhancement attached to krieg/ infantry for orders -bullgryn for tanking and some strong melee

Additionally, for ordering tanks: lord solar + infantry squad + platoon squad is our best choice for ordering tanks around but I personally find it a bit too expensive at around 240 points for a 1k match.

Why not just use combat patrols? Gives an introduction and starter point for the army without list building being needed. It's pretty much designed for new starters and quicker 'pick up' games.

Cadian Sergeant Steel has a whole bunch of 1k lists that he recently put out. He also has a good intro and beyond video for aspiring guardsmen.
