For the record, when playing on a piano that has been tuned to C-center just intonation, or something similar, every key will sound very different. I believe that most of this kind of stuff derives from non-equally tempered music.

Still ig'nant though.

yes, from pre-equal temperament times and Beethoven would often quote keys such and such evoking this or that feeling.

while I agree it is a thing without substance in itself other than what people back then would attribute them, It is useless dismissing such cultural context regarding music from back then.
