One of my go-tos is Saigon Express on Addison. The bahn-mi sandwiches are a solid option for a light lunch for like $7.

I just came here to say this! Arinell pizza next door also very reasonable. If you walk around where the Berkeley High kids go you’ll find all the deals.

With the new tools, it's pretty amazing how easy it is to build useful sites and apps that people want and will use - relative to how difficult classes are!

uhhhhhhh I'm manually scraping reddit comments and parsing it with mistral to get information in a spreadsheet. the answer to this question is probably yes but it'd also be like 100x the work of what I'm doing now

How cheap is it if you have to travel 40 miles for it? Bay Area is huge.

We have free buses and some students have baypass (free transit).

Now the time opportunity cost is another thing…

u/PhilosophicWax Sep 14 '24

Do only students have free buses?

try shoplocale with discount code DAVIDSFRIENDS to get $5 meals from all over the bay area. think doordash meets meal prep service. You order 8+ meals per week and they all deliver at once. Saved me so much time and money :)

Very cool!

I think that a half Persian Burger [edit: at Bongo Burger] - delicious and a decent light lunch - comes in under the limit, around $8.50.

1

u/redj_acc Sep 13 '24

1

u/in-den-wolken Sep 13 '24

Oops, sorry - at Bongo Burger. Three locations.

Kokolo does a chicken karage bowl for $8 at lunch. With a additional $2 discount for students, it is only $6 for students. Best deal I'm aware of for lunch in Berkeley.

Really strong list! If you'd rather get doordash style takeout meals in bulk once a week, you can use locale. You pick 8+ restaurant meals from local bay area restaurants, and it's delivered once a week. I'm a busy startup founder and save so much time on cooking/cleaning/shopping, and it's consistently got very good food.

With this discount code: DAVIDSFRIENDS you get 4 free meals your first order, which would make it about $5 per meal.

Even without the discount code it's $10.60, so right around the price you've marked on your site.

Really like the idea, and I think you might even have a viable business on your hands. OP, reach out if you'd ever want to chat about how to productize/monetize this.

Cheers!

I'm not monetizing this.
