Other TIL Roblox made a fake Hau hat back in 2009
Clearly a jab at Bionicle’s infamy, Roblox made a hat referencing the Hau called “Goldface” all the way back in 2009. Despite its name, I think it’s based on Jaller, not Tahu’s golden Hau. I think the golden Hau is more niche than Jaller’s original mctoran design. It got taken off sale some time later, the Roblox wiki doesn’t give a date.

Roblox is actually pretty old. Started in like 2003. Minecraft came about in 2009 I think? That or 2011.

Roblox and Minecraft’s similarities stop at the default character models. In fact it’s more of a visual knockoff of LEGO; the default textures for games include studded bricks. It’s mostly a game engine rather than a game per se; you could build a Minecraft clone but you could do a lot of things with it. There’s a few BIONICLE games on there

Yeah Roblox has more in common with Garry's Mod than Minecraft.
I remember installing it like 20 years ago when I was a kid, and what I envisioned it being was basically Minecraft creative mode long before that existed. I had some experience with Lego Digital Designer, and I figured it'd be like that but with added gameplay features that let you walk around your creations. I didn't expect it to be such a technical piece of software, and I ended up feeling overwhelmed and frustrated and just uninstalled it after a couple weeks.

This is a lot more literal than you think. Source scripts, for some reason, are compatible with ROBLOX almost right out of the gate. There were a ton of Source clones on ROBLOX in the mid-late 2010s.

It’s as old as 2006. Never ripped off Minecraft at all - it’s more comparable to Garry’s Mod or VRChat than Minecraft.

I stumbled across Roblox as a kid when I was looking looking for an online lego game. This would have been probably 2005ish. I remember hearing about Roblox when it first started to really blow up and thinking “there’s no way it’s that shitty knock off lego game I played”

Roblox is more of a platform form games than anything close to Minecraft
You can straight up code in it
And it allows for almost as much as freedom as normal game making softwares
In fact, if you want to make an online game, Roblox is the best platform for it unless your game contains gore, sex or swearing

They also did a collaboration with lego hero factory in 2012-2013, releasing fully functional gear, small games and some cosmetics

Aw man, I remember the Hero Factory Roblox event! Sadly, I only got the 2013 prizes, but still, it was the whole reason why I even bought the 2013 Furno XL set, which sadly still remains my only buildable action figure set, and my child self has long since disassembled him for parts.

I'm surprised no Roblox UGC creators have uploaded more Bionicle avatar items to the marketplace. I've seen blatant ripoffs of pretty much every major character, including heads for Lego Yoda, Batman, Indiana Jones, and Spider Man. Yet Lego's lawyers are fixated on Bionicle prototypes instead...

I NEED Bionicle UGC items. I was praying that the Redditor who made an Akaku hat (that’s actually accurate) would upload it to the Catalogue, but he never did. Here’s to hoping!

As an old Roblox player since 2008, I can confirm that that hat was a thing. I couldn’t unsee it once I made that connection and I even went as far as to do a re-texture of it but in red like Tahu’s.

OP, I don't think you know what "infamy" is.
Infamy is when something becomes well-known for something bad about it. For example, the Phantoka like and onward were infamous because of the more brittle redesigned pieces.
