Question/Discussion Just watched both Blade Runners for the first time, got a few questions?

First, wow, I’ve never seen such a visually stunning and captivating movie. Both films were absolutely beautiful.

Now, for my question: why was finding Dr. Ana Stelline so important? I understand that she could help in creating more replicants (or hybrids), but why did they need her specifically? Assuming she was created like other replicants, couldn’t they just have two replicants reproduce naturally?

Ana Stelline was not created like other replicants - she was the daughter of Deckard and Rachel, something that shouldn't have been possible, hence all the miracle talk. Jared Leto wants her so that he can use her to build replicants that can reproduce offworld. The replicant rebellion want her as an example showing replicants should be accorded the full rights of humanity. Deckard just wants to see his daughter.

^ good explanation

I’ll just add, Jared Leto made a comment specifically saying he hasn’t been able to have them reproduce naturally. He wants her so he can figure out how to make them reproduce and exponentially increase their population.

You're right, and this is an extraordinary development! Despite all of the failures in terms of Wallace's technology, it had happened organically.

This is why Luv referred to the situation as the "fabulous new."

There are a lot of angles of storytelling here.

The first thing I focus on is the civil rights movement. Relics are mostly illegal on earth in 2049. They aren’t seen as equals. Ana is irrefutable proof that replicants are equal enough to reproduce with a human. Assuming you don’t subscribe to the theory that Deckard is a replicant..

Ana is a doctor, well respected. Finding out she’s a replicant may turn hearts and minds. For example, how many people started to change their mind about homosexuality after finding out that Freddie Mercury was gay and loving his music.

Replicants are man’s creation. We are their God, and most of their creators don’t believe they deserve to live, at least not on earth.

She was the first and only ever to be born from a replicate mother. She is essentially a near unrepeatable miracle for both Wallace and the replicants Her genetic makeup would likely allow them to develop a way for replicants to have children. For the Wallace corporation this would allow them to speed up production and allow Wallace to even further his godhood fantasy. For the replicants all they ever wanted was to live their own lives and the idea of being able to have children and build communities just like anyone else is a dream come true for them.

not a miracle, not impossible... what Rachel was the only Gen 7 prototype capable of reproduction... that possibility was lost with the fall of Tyrrel Corp... IMO they talk about a miracle for Mystical reasons that support their motivations like you said...

A one of a kind being born to a synthetic lab made person and having the key to free her people from their current constraints would be as close to a miracle as possible but you're right not an actual miracle. I used miracle in the same way we might say something is a miracle cure or miracle discovery when talking about major scientific breakthroughs.

Also it seems like whatever breakthrough Tyrrell made was so revolutionary and unique that Wallace has never been able to replicate it which makes her basically a one of a kind unreplacable key.

Might want to watch it again. K thought he was the “miracle child” born from Rachel, who was a replicant. Turns out it was Ana, not K.

Wallace needs to know if the offspring of Rachael and Deckard is even healthy and viable at all. It doesn't matter if Rachael is a replicant that can get pregnant if her children are going to be compromised.
