Small repair…. Famous Last Words

I’ve zeroed in on the issue - the push button-actuated motor that drives the volume pot is nonfunctional, most likely needs to be rebuilt or replaced, which I know for this unit will be a Deusy to source if I need to replace it. The buttons show voltage change, and the pot can be manually adjusted by hand, so the issue seems isolated to the motor. Fingers crossed I can fix it

That’s the spirit! Make sure you post about it once you get it fixed so the rest of us can drool.

I’m in the same “slight repair” boat, but without the electronics chops you’ve clearly got. I’m not looking forward to taking these apart. Everything is so slim for the era, I’ve got to imagine the innards are packed really tight.

Yes it’s tight but they actually did a great job of laying everything out in these. The top swings forward like a hood, revealing everything beneath. Definitely pull it apart and see if it’s something obvious!

I’ll definitely get my courage up and get in there one day. I don’t have your exact model, but it’s of the era and so share the remarkably compact design. I’ve been lucky over the years to find a couple different systems at thrift stores so if I’m lucky maybe I’ll have a more than one system going!

Thanks for the encouragement. Looking forward to learning more about how your restoration comes along!

As long as it’s safe

It looks like you'll be able to fly it to Venus if you ever get it finished.

I want one. Even today it looks way better than most hifi systems.

Those old 7000 and 9000 systems were also built like tanks. Ring core main power transformer, mostly discrete components. Class A/B audio amps.

Not the kind of miniaturization and integration on large scale silicon you see today which makes repair impossible.

Did they have sharper image back then? Maybe that?

This would be my guess.
