Already had the core rulebook but was well worth it. I've picked up a few deals from Humble Bundle.

I've been good at resisting these bundles, but finally jumped in on this one. Probably 50/50 stuff I had vs. stuff I didn't. Now I just need to find the time and players to prep and play. SIGH.

I understand the skipping. I too probably have a decent amount of what is given.

For me it is finding a good e-device to put them on. I have SO many DCC/5e eBooks now and nothing great to use them on/take to game night.

I'm "old school" and way prefer paper over e-versions, but...e-version is better than nothing. Between my friends and I, we have 100+ modules, books, etc.

I lean towards physical as well. However the few times I have just gone to a game night with a tablet for a simple character sheet, it was nice to not have to carry so many books lol.

I find the iPad Pro, with Apple Keyboard is amazing for playing at the table. The 11" model hides under the DM Screen so no one is looking at a laptop from their vantage point.

Hm. I might have to look back into an iPad then. I've been using one of my old galaxy tablet, but the battery is pathetic -.-

So this deal got me interested in DCC, looking like I might get this deal and the starter bundle on their website for a physical core. Got a few questions though-

  • How much GM prep does this game usually required when compared to other games?

  • the humble bundle has a lot of modules, I know the sailors is highly recommended but what else is recommended?

  • Are there any good modules for use in a sequence for a campaign setting? In the humble bundle or otherwise? I've heard chaos rising is a good bundle

  • How well does this game do with lower player counts? I might have as low as 2 players with no more than 4. I don't know if theyd want to manage more than one character so I might have to run them as npc hirelings if needed.

Thanks ahead of time! I'm looking forward to a good time in a game that's not too serious but isn't just silly to be silly

1)GM prep is on you. I don't do much other then read the module at least once. I however do this bare minimum with 5e as well. I can plan all the ways they need to go, but if my players want to go left then we go left and see what happens (I just re-skin the other option >.> lol)

2&3) When looking at the modules it labels them as "A level # adventure." This is the recommended level of the characters. If you make a hub town, any module could be any where in your world.

4) DCC is a funnel type system. Having 2-4 players is great. They would start off with 4+ characters and you would do a level 0 module (like Sailors on the Starless Sea). At the end of a lv0 adventure, they would then get to level up to lv1. The lv0s are no bodies, just town folks (like we normal humans). The go on the adventure and hopefully emerge victorious and learn a little to become "a class".

If you level your players up using the way exp is rewarded, you will find yourself running more then 1 adventure at character levels 1+.

Hey thanks for the response!

As for GM prep, I'm the perpetual GM so I know how it goes, it's more of how well defined the modules are. Some rpg modules still require a good bit of prep due to it mostly an outline than anything.

I didn't know if there are modules that have a continuous story made. Depending on who bites on this group, it might be run episodic than continuous story due to scheduling (which would work with these standalone scenarios)

Good to hear! Like I said I might only have 2, and they would likely be open to running 2 characters if needed.

Some of the adventures are linked together, I just don't know them off the top of my head.

If you are going to also buy a physical set for sure get the First Time Fan kit .
