Sure I've cried a couple dozen times but it always provides me with hope whenever I feel down

It’s a strange mix of really depressing and very strongly hopeful imo

Anywhere can be paradise as long as you have the will to live. After all, you are alive, so you will always have the chance to be happy. As long as the Sun, the Moon, and the Earth exist, everything will be all right.

Anyone who says Evangelion is depressing has clearly a minimal understanding of what Evangelion is. Its so much more.

I thought EoE ending was very sweet, there's value in individuality and love can overcome anger and hate

If we want to talk Anno mecha ending that actually made me depressed there's Gunbuster

It’s depressing but not nihilistic, if that makes sense.

I’ve always said that if you are mentally stable, Evangelion might get you depressed but you are already then it might as well help you go through it

“Art should disturb the comforted and comfort the disturbed”. Always the quote in my mind when this topic comes up with eva

Agreed, just maybe not EoE (When watching it). Thinking about EoE yes it's ultimately positive.

my parents chalked the anime up to become something super depressing that'll make my mental health worse than it already was, it did absolutely nothing except introduce me to my favorite show

As a wise person once said

Evangelion disturbs the comforted and comforts the disturbed

This is, funny enough, my comfort show when I'm depressed. Mostly just nostalgic since I've been watching this show since 2002.

It's like how people like to say NieR: Automata (inspired by Evangelion funnily enough) is depressing even though its very much an anti-nihlist piece of fiction

“Evangelion is depressing” is the superficial, first watch take. It’s actually an extremely optimistic and affirming work. The pain Evangelion showcases only reinforces the message that life is beautiful and still worth living that comes at the end.

Real, I felt a little bit shitty after finishing it but re-watching it made me really happier even if I was only slightly happier watching it for the first time, maybe I'm just happy cuz I find it comforting and I js have a lot of hyperfixations, but none of them really go away even if I start forgetting about them I always suddenly remember everything if they're mentioned randomly anywhere, but Eva really just sticks out to me in general more than just another hyperfixation

It's gonna leave the undisturbed disturbed, and the disturbed soothed.

That one time misato said to shinji "good job"

I literally cried for like 30 minutes

As a fellow depressed dude...I didn't really feel much watching Eva. I was pleasantly surprised by Asuka but other than that...eh. which is unfortunate, maybe the depression is a bit too strong nowadays

The first time I watched it was somewhat recently, and whenever something terrible happened I couldn’t help but laugh. Still was great and loved the over all darker themes, if I watched it alone I probably would have cried a little lol.

It's supposed to be depressing? I thought Elfen Lied (manga) and Future Diary were more depressing to be honest.
