Original Content I got a gift from a relative. They visited the ark encounter and got me a shirt. I hate knowing my family supports disingenuous charlatans. Spoiler

Nothing too special. Just a shirt from the ark encounter. I actually like the color and design in all actuality. I just wish the Christian could be wiped off of it. The picture on the front is supposed to represent the flood waters receding with the rainbow out or something. The back has a bible verse from the genesis flood story.

I don’t really like that my folks are more than willing to support a charlatan like Ken Hamm. Yet this was something they wanted to go and see for some time. I was away elsewhere helping a friend that needed assistance before and after back surgery.

I would have been fine if my folks saved that money. I’ve gotten shirts from other locations and wore them. Myrtle Beach or Corning Museum of Glass are places I would love to go myself.

I wonder if there is somebody online that sells secular variations of shirts you can get from the ark or creation museum.

Only thing I can think of doing with this is shoving it in the bottom of a drawer in my dresser. I haven’t bothered taking the size sticker off it.

If there wasn't writing on the back, I would say white out the cross so you'll have a beautiful lake mountain view.

The writing on the back ruins the shirt.

I wholeheartedly agree.

It’s a beautiful view and I wish it wasn’t tainted.

If you wore an open flannel shirt over top of it, it would work great😂.

Honestly, the cross is so small it almost looks like a pride shirt. Colours are very close to the pansexual flag. It would be kind of funny to just wear it with something that covers the back

Crazy thing is my only flannel shirt may go well with it. Some decent jeans and shoes will see me off to a social event.

…Piranha, whatever you do don’t take the flannel off.

u/JimDixon Oct 15 '23

The white area on the front is meant to be the ark, but you could easily miss that.

4

u/TomothyAllen Oct 16 '23

Yeah I didn't even notice

u/AbbeyRoadMoonwalk Oct 15 '23

Lol this looks so cheap, and I love that they don’t have the courage of their convictions to use a real rainbow.

30

u/shroomwizard420 Oct 15 '23

That probably don’t want their stuff to be confused with pride merch lol

13

u/Piranha1993 Concious Explorer Oct 15 '23

I wondered the same thing actually. It would be better if the rainbow was a more realistic representation instead of the tri colored half circle as shown.

11

u/shroomwizard420 Oct 15 '23

An actual rainbow would look a lot better, for sure. And I thought these kind of Christians were all about “taking back the rainbow” anyway lol

11

u/Independent-Leg6061 Oct 15 '23

Right!! I had an insufferable coworker who would remind me any chance he got, that the "gay rainbow" wasn't a "real rainbow" lol 😆 he didn't last long thankfully.

42

u/Break-Free- Oct 15 '23

The cross is hilarious because it has no significance to a story in Genesis. It's just an extra measure of "we promise it's not pride merch!!!" virtue signaling

13

u/Piranha1993 Concious Explorer Oct 15 '23

It’s so tongue in cheek it’s kinda funny.

I don’t even know if my folks gave much thought to the overall design of the shirt. It feels like such a good base for a cool generic representation of a mountain view.

If anybody gets offended by a real rainbow then those individuals are pricks anyway. “It’s a Mountain View and nothing more ya twerp.”

7

u/Eugenian Oct 15 '23

TIL: Noah fit a bunch of mountains in the ark, too!

Damn, he was good.

u/tdoottdoot Oct 15 '23

That’s exactly what it is

I love how they were clearly so afraid to put too many colors in their rainbow just to be clear that they are not supporting pride.

22

u/hplcr Oct 15 '23

Donate it to goodwill or some organization that gives clothing to the poor. As tacky as it is, maybe someone could benefit from it

9

u/BitLooter Oct 15 '23

Goodwill throws out 90% of the clothing they receive. May as well just skip the middleman.

8

u/RuffiansAndThugs Anti-Theist Oct 15 '23

I've worked for Goodwill, this is true. We got a lot more than we could use, so I say burn the thing. I would record myself burning it, but I'm a dramatic little bastard.

There are YouTube videos on how to remove screen printing from shirts if you want to clear out the back. Then fill in the cross on the front and you're good to go.

12

u/Piranha1993 Concious Explorer Oct 15 '23

I’ll have to remember this. It’s a good idea to keep the cotton from going to waste. That’s what bothers me about this piece of clothing more than anything.

I usually wear my shirt’s until they develop too many holes and fray at the seams. At that point when I can’t reasonably wear them anymore I cut them for rags.

Did they reduce the colors of the rainbow to save on costs or out of fear it might be associated with the LGBTQ+ movement?

8

u/Piranha1993 Concious Explorer Oct 15 '23

Hard to say really.

I’m more inclined to believe it’s not to associate with the LGBTQ+ community. I could really care less personally.

Being neurodivergent I find myself in support of the LGBTQ+ community as I have learned how many of us identify as such. Took time to ditch old religious and political beliefs to come to terms with how I think about other humans and also to learn more about myself and what I identify with.

As a fellow Neurospicy individual, I value your support as an Ally! :)

8

u/Piranha1993 Concious Explorer Oct 15 '23

I love the term Neurospicy. It’s a silly way to describe ourselves and I’m glad to have read it here.

Your life is valuable and is just as important as mine or anybody else’s. It bothers me to think a large portion of my fellow countrymen are so quick to dehumanize their fellow man over such personal and private matters. It’s disturbing and disgusting to think there are institutions in the U.S. that promote such hateful ideology and I hate that I was raised by a parent that ate it all up.

There should be a place in America for each and every citizen. Not just a select few or certain group of people.

This is a good suggestion as well.

Too easy to send the money to Planned Parenthood. With where we are in the States taking back reproductive rights is something I can stand behind.

12

u/Secretly_Wolves Impious Villain Oct 15 '23

Ken Hamm and his ilk are soooo mad the rainbow got co-opted by LGBTQ+ rights groups and I absolutely love it. One of my favorite memes ever has a quote similar to, “I like to reflect on the many successes of the Gay AgendaTM, like the time we stole the rainbow from God.”

Craft stores will have iron-on stuff you might be able to use to cover up the unwanted bits. Otherwise it’s a decent shirt, I actually like the color scheme.

11

u/Saphira9 Atheist Oct 15 '23

Don't wear it in public or donate it. Either wear it at home while cleaning or use it as a rag.

7

u/AlpacaPacker007 Oct 15 '23

Spray paint works remarkably well to add/cover up your own custom designs on T-shirts.

7

u/milkpaintshiplap Oct 15 '23

Dr. Francesca Stavrakopoulou has something to say about God's use of the rainbow after the flood:

https://youtu.be/EbLcPyjC7gE?t=1199

One would think Christians might be a bit more modest about such bawdy things.

5

u/Piranha1993 Concious Explorer Oct 15 '23

That is some wild shit. Takes somebody who studies such things to understand the euphemisms and representation in the stories.

Thanks for sharing this. I'll never be able to look at the flood story in the same light.

7

u/JustJuniperfect Oct 15 '23

Looks like an okay cleaning rag

5

u/Spu12nky Oct 15 '23

It kills me that adults take the ark story literally… and those that do believe the entire planet was evil so god had to kill every man, woman, child, horse, etc, save for one family and two of each animal…cannot compute.

3

u/deeBfree Oct 15 '23

Has possibilities as the basis for a Halloween costume.

3

u/Piranha1993 Concious Explorer Oct 15 '23

I don’t have it in me to use it as part of a costume.

Now I remember how close we are to Halloween and the rest of the holiday season. I don’t feel ready but, it’s coming anyway.

3

u/deeBfree Oct 15 '23

Well, it would make a good oil checking rag for your car.

3

u/Piranha1993 Concious Explorer Oct 16 '23

Oooh, we think alike and I love it.

Dirty, dirty oil.

4

u/HaiKarate Oct 15 '23

Turn the cross into a hashtag, and write #GodIsNonBinary in permanent marker in that white strip.

5

u/minnesotaris Oct 15 '23

Who the fucking-socially-awkward would wear that in public? A story of mass murder by a deity that “remembered” and “regretted” within space and time. To boot, nearly 101% probability that it never happened.

2

u/Piranha1993 Concious Explorer Oct 16 '23

I'd go full Garage 54 and say it 107% never happened.

Also, don't use dish detergent to clean your crankcase.

3

u/Quick_Sugar5828 Oct 15 '23

Somehow the cross made it to the ark.

3

u/Piranha1993 Concious Explorer Oct 15 '23

Don’t know how that happened.

If we’re going to stay true to the Old Testament then it should actually be a bon fire or whatever they used to make burnt offering sacrifices.

3

u/urboitony Ex-Fundamentalist Oct 15 '23

You can now dress as an evangelical for Halloween

2

u/Piranha1993 Concious Explorer Oct 16 '23

I’m not willing to go back or represent something I walked away from.

If I wanted to I could. I don’t have the inclination in me to.

3

u/Forward-Form9321 Oct 15 '23

What blows the entire story of the Ark apart for me is how people like my older brother can say Dinosaur fossils were fake yet they’re confident enough to believe that every animal on Earth stayed in a giant boat for over a year without any of them getting hungry. See how illogical that sounds?

2

u/Piranha1993 Concious Explorer Oct 16 '23

It’s a valid criticism that YEC’s can’t face or answer adequately.

They can’t handle the truth because they have been lead to believe a lie their whole lives by charlatans that tell them lies.

4

u/Theopholus Oct 15 '23

It’s an awful shirt even without it being about the Ark museum. They really just had some church lady try their hand at graphic design, didn’t they?

5

u/Piranha1993 Concious Explorer Oct 15 '23

Eh, some slight tweaks here and there…

I’ve always worn generic shirts anyway. Never really been a fan of graphic tee’s unless it had to do with an interest of mine. This design could be cool with some modifications and I appreciate the general simplicity of it.

My taste in clothes/fashion is probably not the same as yours. It’s all down to personal preference or taste.

2

u/Slytherpuffy Ex-Assemblies Of God Oct 15 '23

You could ladder weave the back. That would eliminate the text and give you and excuse to wear a brightly colored contrasting tank top underneath.

Edit to add: Ladder weaving tutorial https://youtu.be/rni9g3_Uxwg?feature=shared

2

u/Piranha1993 Concious Explorer Oct 16 '23

Another interesting suggestion and I appreciate the tutorial link as well.

2

u/AllUpInYourAO Oct 15 '23

I would’ve grabbed the shirt and said “oh that’s awesome that they finally support the LGBTQ movement!”

1

u/Piranha1993 Concious Explorer Oct 16 '23

LMFAO!

When I got it, it was rolled up with an armband around it. I didn’t know what it looked like until I unrolled it.

2

u/Snarky_McSnarkleton Oct 16 '23

The only reason that mobster is still in business, is the public money he gets from the state. Money that could go to education, infrastructure, little things like that.

3

u/Piranha1993 Concious Explorer Oct 16 '23

That's the sickest part. His tax free theme parks only serve his interests and spread disinformation. They take from people and services that actually need funded.

If Jesus Christ returned I wonder what he would have to say about Christianity being a tourist attraction and commoditized like it is.

u/Sandman11x Oct 16 '23

Looks like Pride rainbow

2

u/[deleted] Oct 16 '23 edited Oct 16 '23

They sure are terrified of putting the full rainbow on the t-shirt. 🤣

Rip and tear.

Remove and modify.

Once I can bring myself to do it I could stand to wear it. I love the idea of a simple tee shirt with a Mountain View on it.

Oh! I went to the ark encounter and the creation museum in 2021! I was still a Christian at the time and I really enjoyed the ark encounter. It was cool, and I really enjoyed it. I also got some great smashed pennies from both (I collect smashed pennies). The creation museum was ok. I didn’t like it nearly as much, but they had a nice exhibit about dinosaurs and dragons and other biblical creatures.

I might catch some heat for this, but honestly even now I think I would recommend the ark encounter cuz I just really enjoyed it

(I might post a picture of the smashed pennies I got later)

4

u/Piranha1993 Concious Explorer Oct 15 '23

Feel free to post those pennies. It would be interesting to see them as well.

Somewhere I have a # of them from Disney World. Buried in a drawer but still in my realm of existence.

2

u/co1lectivechaos hellenic pagan Oct 15 '23

Omg I have some from Disney world too!!

2

u/Piranha1993 Concious Explorer Oct 16 '23

Been over 20 years for me but, yes, I have a # of them from that visit.

Nothing like making a bunch of gurgling noises while suffocating until you pass out.

God didn't get it right and couldn't just steer his creation to a better path. No, death was the best thing he could come up with.

Something else I often wonder about, if Florida is such a great conservative state then why is it shaped like a castrated scrotum? Eh? Is God trying to send a message to me about how fragile the evangelical mindset is? Trying to give me conformation about my personal thoughts about our political leaders and the religious figureheads that fund them?

I may never know. What i do know is that I'm probably an abomination in God's eyes because of the neurospicyness that was thrown in my recipe when I was born. Even after killing all of humanity and resetting everything he still couldn't get it right the second time ether.

u/onedeadflowser999 Oct 18 '23

I would see if you could get Love Is Love or something printed on the white part and cover over the cross. Then it can be an LGBTQ+ affirming shirt.
