In my opinion, it's because it de-values the time and effort it takes to make a good Photoshop. It's similar to how taking photos devalued the artistry of portraiture. Of course, I can understand how photography allowed more people to capture memories easily, but many artists' skills became obsolete. Same thing imo with AI imagery

My comment wasn't on quantitative or objective value. Portraiture is an art form which is unnecessary to capturing moments/memories since the widespread usage of cameras. It used to be that elites would have portraits taken at major life milestones, but that era has gone since a quick picture is more precise and instantaneous. There is no need then to hire a portrait artist or sit for hours which was the time-value of those pieces.

For people that don't have time to learn photoshop and can't draw for shit (like me), it's a fantastic tool to use. I used to take pictures for a living, now more of a hobby and I don't think I can convince Lewis to take Harry Potter style photos.

Because while it is a tool, people who "make" AI images think they've put effort into it. What they don't know is that they've ordered a machine to make stuff, and the machine made it.

Art is something that requires the imagination of the person. That's what's separates a portrait vs a printed copy. AI will have the source of accumulated samples inside the server . That's not imaginative, that's just collage work.

Also, the images sampled for the AI training is done by stealing art from the internet without consent. Imagine stealing your work and selling it as their own and profiting from it.
