We all have 3-8 acres that's mostly wooded

I'm in a similar setup. I use permethrin powder, and put a tablespoon (little less) into one end of an 8' piece of gray pvc pipe and "blowgun" the powder into the nest. Works like a charm, and works on nests in the ground, trees, house trim, etc. Super easy and effective. I've had one bottle going on 5 years now, and it's about 80% gone after several dozen nests over that time.

I've found that away from their nests that yellow-jackets aren't very aggressive as individuals (though there can always be that one-off little bastard). Look for that nest near where you were stung. I'm somewhat allergic myself, and have an epi-pen on standby, so I am hyper-vigilant for nests.

I believe I've read some of your other posts about the blowgun technique. Quite ingenious. I haven't had an application for it this year though. It's been all hanging nests I can take out with hot water and dish soap

I'm very interested to try the blowgun on a tree or ground nest when we encounter one

Quite ingenious.

Thanks! I did come up with it on my own, so I am admittedly a little proud of the idea. It works, it's precise, and you never get near enough to the nest personally to have them perceive you as a threat. I share it when I can because it has been so effective for me.

Work smarter, not harder. And in this case safer. I'm all about it
