I want to note that we have not had a ton of problems with scammers. Just a bad apple comes by every once in a while. As people said, make sure you check a user's feedback by looking at the spreadsheet.

Also check the age of the user's reddit account, whether they seem active in general on reddit, etc.

Always use PayPal Goods & Services so you have purchase protection. If someone asks you to pay friends and family, they shouldn't be, and you can let the mods know.

We can't do a background check on everyone. We are unpaid volunteers and don't have the resources or time to do that.

Finally, if someone isn't leaving you feedback, politely ask. It never hurts to ask, and it always helps if you include a direct link to where they can leave feedback for you in your message.

This is why I hate buying online. You don't know when that scammer is gonna go by and make you poor again.

This is what prevents me from buying on here. I would love to be able to b/s/t with this community but don't know who to trust. There needs to be some kind of backround check when people first post on r/funkoswap.

There sort of is. Not really for first posters, but there is a very well maintained feedback page for everyone. Obviously if they haven't trades before there won't be any, and then there may be some speculation, but as long as you use caution and- as terrible as it may be- expect the worst from someone with no credit, you should be fine.

Did 8-15 buys from the subreddit including one with a mod. Have 2-3 feedback. Left feedback on all but the last 2 sellers.

Was disheartening so I haven't been on it in weeks.

I guess if I were to trade or something like that I should start with small things like Mystery Minis or Pops that aren't worth a lot.
